La Familia drug cartel is selling not just drugs, but also counterfeit Microsoft Office computer software, according the Redmond, Wash., tech giant.
Microsoft showed off unauthorized copies of its Office 2007 software in Paris today which the company said it found for sale in Mexico. The pirated copies of Office were marked with La Familia cartel's rectangular "FMM" logo that the Microsoft says proves the link between the counterfeiting and the organized crime group, according to a Bloomberg report.
"This is the real side, the scary side of counterfeiting and it plagues the world," said David Finn, Microsoft's associate general counsel for anti-piracy, according to Bloomberg.
Finn displayed the bootleg Microsoft software Friday at the Global Congress on Combating Counterfeiting and Piracy, the report said.
The International Chamber of Commerce said at the Paris event that, in the 20 nations that make up the G-20, the value of counterfeit and pirated goods was an estimated $650 million in 2008, according to Bloomberg.
That number is expected to rise to about $1.77 trillion by 2015, the report said.

You don't just take a dude with no skills off the street and train him to write code. If these dudes had any of the 'skills' you mention, they wouldn't be unemployed.
I never said "some dude off the street would qualify for these jobs." I've talked to some highly skilled programmers who wouldn't agree with you. Like I said before employers want specific code language skills and are unwilling to train those (who are already programmers) who could easily learn and are already here and desperate for jobs.
Hey GatesCo®... good luck with that!
Mexico can’t even keep up with their own issues - from drugs, to absolute corruption at every level. For that matter, the MExican government probably uses some of LaFamilia’s pirated software!
MExico has bigger issues than your crappy software, Microsoft. Get over it (and no, I don’t condone pirating even crappy software).
Microsoft says La Familia drug cartel is selling bootleg Office software which can be used for rebooting
Microsoft software is developed predominantly in C++.
The only way to prevent this is to ban the use and possession of Office software.
But violate a darned copyright and you've crossed the line!
OK Bill Whackem Out!!
Meh.
Microsoft has been taking results from Google and presenting them as being from Bing.
If Microsoft doesn’t like their product being stolen, maybe they should stop stealing products from other companies.
Just a thought.

Finding innovative ways to get your products into the hands of users is the ultimate responsibility of the CEO....congratulations to Bill on this new way to market Office during a period of low demand.
They always said Bill was a genius....Balmer I’m not so sure of!!
