A 7-year-old child allegedly shot a Nerf-style toy gun in his Hammonton, N.J., school Jan. 18. No one was hurt, but the pint-size softshooter now faces misdemeanor criminal charges.
Hammonton Police began an investigation into the suspicious activity at the Hammonton Early Childhood Education Center Jan. 18 after school officials alerted them to the incident.
The "gun" the child brought to school was a $5 toy gun, similar to a Nerf gun, that shoots soft ping pong type balls, according to the school's superintendent.
Officials also say that there was no evidence of anyone being threatened. The child's mother told school officials that she didn't know her son brought the toy to school.
Dr. Dan Blachford, the Hammonton Board of Education superintendent, said the school has a zero tolerance policy.
"We are just very vigilant and we feel that if we draw a very strict line then we have much less worry about someone bringing in something dangerous," said Blachford.
Deseire Gherard, a parent of one of the students at the school, agrees with the policy.
"I'd rather it be dealt with more severely than not," said Gherard. "I would rather them go a little bit too far for the safety of all the children then to say 'okay, it was probably nothing.'"
Police charged the 7-year-old with possessing an imitation firearm in or on an education institution a misdemeanor and a minor juvenile offense in New Jersey.
School officials described the child as "a nice kid" and "a good student." Authorities haven't commented on what specific disciplinary action or punishment the boy faces though it could involve counseling and other resources made available to the family.
No! no!
The leftist agenda is to emasculate little boys and turn them into confused, effete, and ineffectual Peter Pans, and to train the little girls to have contempt for them.
Collectivist government schooling is child abuse, especially for boys. These indoctrination camps are filled to the brim with Teacher Ratcheds who eat the balls of little boys for lunch.
This intolerance to guns is merely one part of much larger plan.
It is hard to believe that grown adults can do this crap with a straight face.
On the other hand, most are products of the same type of “education”.
If Hammonton Police really think a Nerf Gun is “an imitation firearm”, then the town is in grave danger.
Notice how the charges are ridiculously inflated for anything related to “gun” or “picture of gun” or “toy gun” or anything that projects an object.
These gooks have nothing better to do than traumatize a seven year old boy with a toy? Oh, America, how I miss you!
Hey, at least the kid didn't point his finger and yell "bang, you're dead!"
However, if you sneak into American and steal somebodys identity, its no big deal.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
If you sneak into the White House with a stolen social security number, fake identity, and forged birth documents, it’s no big deal. The Democrats will defend your right to do it.
Have you ordered your copy of “Agenda” yet?

Let us know if the DA decides to prosecute.
LOLOL!
LandoftheFreeandtheHomeoftheBrave.
Bureaucrats and Cops. Profiles in stupidity. Yes, stupidity, even the cops could’ve exercised some common sense. But that’s wishful thinking today.
Children criminalised.
On the bright side, hopefully another lover of sanity has been created, but then again, who knows.
Viva Nannyism!
“Hammonton Police began an investigation into the suspicious activity at the Hammonton Early Childhood Education Center Jan. 18 after school officials alerted them to the incident.”
Let the witch hunt begin!
Next thing you know the schools will have boys arrested for being rapists because they have the equipment to do such with even though they haven’t committed any crime! It may sound absurd but just watch.
25 years ago we had a Swiss boy stay with us for the summer, he was 12. My boys were always hunting and at 12 and 14 had guns and went rabbit hunting most every night. They taught the Swiss kid to shoot not thinking anything of it.
He came to visit for the first time a few months ago and the thing he remembers most is the shooting and how he tells all his friends in France and Switzerland all about it and they just can’t believe it.
“Zero tolerance” started out sounding tough and no-nonsense. Now it’s just nonsense. Jeez...
Colonel, USAFR
It went out the door hand in hand with common sense.
At work so can't read the whole story but I wonder if they cuffed the 7 year old and took him away in a police car.
This makes me sick.
No joke...
