I am a teacher in a rural, low income ( though you would never know it from the clothes the kids wear on free dress Wednesdays, the SUV’s their parent or grandparent on welfare pick them up in) school district.....................we have all the bells & whistles you mention...........the prometheum boards, the endless computers, the tons of money thrown our way................unless you are in the school system you would not believe it.

I think you are a wonderful, caring teacher who is absolutely fighting a losing battle. I cringe every time one of my second graders tells me he or she will be an auntie or an uncle...................

Our country is in a complete freefall and public schools are a tiny bandaid on a gushing wound. I would not send a homeless guinae pig to my school district........

You are probably the only hope that the Nicoles of the world have............

Much of the problem is caused by the so-called “black culture”. Rap music glorifies the drug dealer and the pimp, and don’t get me started on how women are depicted. Not to mention how everything is blamed on “whitey”.

This article is amazing, and I wish this teacher the best. However, I bet after the powers-that-be at his school see the article, he’ll be fired. And the teacher’s union won’t do a d@#$ for him.

To enforce something like mandatory BC for anyone (more approrpirately everyone regardless of race) would require draconian measures we’re not likely to do.

Best compromise would be to cease subsidising children having children, remove endangered babies from underage mothers and tie any government subsidies to something like norplant. And make the fathers pay child support or work it off by doing unpaid labor for the state.

These dams should have been spayed and the sires should have been neutered the second their offspring got on any welfare program. How long are we going to be outvoted by a growing underclass of society that places no value on education or civilized living? How much more money and resources are we going to waste on such people when there are plenty of others who DO value getting a good education who would be more than happy to receive such help?

What man in his right mind would ever marry an idiot dunce like any of those described in this story?

This is one life lesson that I hope I can successfully impart on my toddler daughter as she grows up. Her "marriage stock" will plummet if she has a baby as a teenager.

The author who knew her personally does not indicate she was an idiot.

Except that allowing feral humans to breed endlessly and suck away more resources from the productive class is even more draconian. There will always be people who choose to not control their animalistic tendancies. Spaying and neutering those who choose to impose the state with the task of their well-being is really the only humane long term solution to this problem.

Thank you.

Birth control, and more of it isn’t the answer.

The problem isn’t teenaged pregnancy, but that the state is the stand in for the father.

Fix the boys and this problem goes away. It takes two to tango.

I think I proposed the best compromise we’re likely to get. I could expand upon it some more given a minute to think about it, but short of running a police state there’s only so much we can do except control the purse strings.

I graduated High School in the mid-seventies. We had a graduating class of about 400 - not one student dropped out or got pregnant.

I graduated in the early 80's, and out of almost 600 students, we had one girl who became pregnant. It wasn't like today though--her "gift" was not celebrated by everyone--maybe her closest few friends. She dropped out of school and went away--to where, I didn't know, but had the baby. She got her diploma eventually, through some night school program, and maybe married the father. It was a lot different then.

Humane? It’s no different than bodily mutilation. We don’t chop the hands off thieves, and certainly, pregnancy isn’t a crime.

Who's punishing pregnancy? I am just simply proposing making spaying and neutering a condition of receiving welfare.

Abolish welfare altogether would be a more humane solution.

sergeantdave posts - “The men in these communities are AWOL. The males wear stupidity and cowardice as a badge of honor. Some men need to rise up and teach these males about duty and fidelity.”

Sadly it is not only in inner city schools. Walking across campus, at my kids school, with male teachers, counselors, even the principal was incredible - they NEVER said as word in reprimand to any verbal outrage that was well within earshot. Someone had to be DOING something to elicit a response : /

Now, I was on the campus A LOT, and never hesitated to notify someone if I felt their language was inappropriate, and interestingly enough, it was always responded to with some level of deference, or at the very least embarassment at being called attention to by someone’s mother : o

Looking back, I SHOULD have called out the principal...

Sigh.

I'd love to, but the welfare recipient voting bloc continues to increase in size every year. There just simply is no way politically to get rid of welfare. What I'm proposing doesn't have to be a government program. I'd like to start a fund of some sort that would pay for these procedures to be done to such people, and then offer these people a cash incentive to participate.
