Fox News’ Greg Palkot & Producer Hospitalized After Being Attacked While Covering Egypt Protests By Molly Stark Dean on February 3, 2011 1:20 PM

Fox News Channel foreign correspondent Greg Palkot and FNC producer Olaf Wiig have been hospitalized in Cairo, Egypt after being attacked by protesters. Palkot was beaten badly and Wiig may have a broken jaw.

This isn’t the first time Wiig has seen trouble on the job. In 2006, Wiig was held hostage by gunmen on the Gaza Strip.

John Roberts reported from London today on the attack on the Fox team:

They were forced to leave their position when a Molotov cocktail was thrown at it, a large fire erupted. They were forced to flee. They ran out and ran right into the pro Mubarak crowd and were severely beaten and had to be taken to the hospital, spent the night in the hospital. The extent of their injuries was fairly grave, however, they have been released from the hospital.

This adds to a growing number of attacks on reporters in Egypt. Roberts’ video report on the FNC attack is after the jump…

And we know that the attackers were pro-Mubarak how? Has no one heard of a false flag?

I think Lenin would be proud.

The downside of advocacy reporting. Journalists should consider not taking sides.

Precisely!

Once these journalists advocate one side or another (which they all do), they turn themselves into enemy combatants. Their cameras and propaganda to the world is often a more devastating weapon to the opposing side than any rifle or bomb. Should it then be surprising that they get jailed or attacked?

These journalists need to ask themselves what right that they think that they have to play advocate for one side or another and powerfully influence the political outcome of any country, and still expect legal protection?

I’m kind of surprised at the harsh nature of these comments.

IMO Palkot’s been a good reporter. Prayers up here, as well.

How do we KNOW they were pro-government supporters?

LOL our corrupt biased media have taken sides and then get upset that the other side is not liking them.
Hell our corrupt media are dumber than I thought .

Even dumber is that they are helping a mad muslim group to take power and then will wonder why they are set upon after.

Maybe if the biased media did their job and just gave us facts then they would not have as many people pissed off at them.

Olaf Wiig, accompanying Greg Palkot in Cairo (and who reportedly had his jaw broken during this incident) is the same guy who was kidnapped and held hostage in Gaza with Steve Centanni

Ah! I thought that was him. What's with that guy...

[ One might infer from this that the Egyptian people aren’t fond of western folks. One might then further deduce from this that their newly formed government will reflect this. The new century is shaping up to be the last century. ]

No, they will rue the day that they made us their “great Satan” and ignored the “Chinese Dragon”, the Chinese Dragon doesn’t play enemy empowering PC games, If we were to abandon the Middle East and withdraw from the U.N. 1/2 of everyone in middle east living under oil would be speaking Chinese with a decade or two. When China wants resources, they will get them and they won’t care about anything in their way, religion, human rights, race, etc....

So do you think they would trade canceling our debt for a free hand in the Middle East. Seriously I know the ChiComs are bad news. However: if I'm forced to chose between dealing with the Empire and the the Caliphate I'm going Empire every time. The Chinese only want to rule the world, not destroy it.

Fairly grave? LOL. I guess the hospitals in Egypt must be staffed by magicians, not physicians.

When did it become a good thing to assault reporters?

When they stopped reporting news and became agents for change. - their own self description.

Thats when.

Mubarack has unleashed his dogs on all media people. CNN`s Anderson Cooper was attacked, too. Mubarack and muslim brotherhood equally stink. Too bad we can`t put up a wall around the entire middle east and just let them slaughter each other.

Egypt and Syria don’t have to win, they just have to keep fighting until Israel runs out of people, or their economy collapses due to having to keep their entire force mobilized.

###

Israel will be forced to use nukes to survive. And they will, if necessary.

I wonder if the Muslim Brotherhood realizes this. The scary part is they probably wouldn't care.

It’s irresponsible and stupid for our press to send so many people into a tinder box like this with the purpose of “reporting” the same message, a message that has already been decided on in Washington and NYC.

Every day of this, on every network and in every newspaper, it’s the same story—there is the BAD government, some sort of vague “democracy movement” (for which there is not one name proffered by our media), the “crucial” Egyptian military and of course the “moderate” (LOL!) Muslim Brotherhood and their front man El Baradei.

That’s it. A few thousand on one side, a few on the other, and tens of millions of people ignored entirely—as well as most of the other cities and areas of the nation. Revolution made for TV with a storyline made up in advance. And you need to send reporters and camera crews because....??
