Wanted: US conservatives prepared to 'come out' as opponents of Sarah Palin
The London Telegraph ^ | February 2, 2011 | Damian Thompson, Blog Editor & Religion reporter

As my colleague Janet Daley notes, ConservativeHome USA has declared war on Sarah Palin, rounding up US conservatives who think she’d be a disaster as the next Republican presidential candidate. What I find strange, however, is the way it’s gone about it. In a piece signed by “The Editors”, ConHomeUSA has awarded anti-Palin Republicans the melodramatic title of “Truth Tellers”. And, rather bizarrely, it is recruiting for more:

If you are a Truth Teller, or want to recommend a commentator who is, email us here.

Don’t get me wrong. I think Sarah Palin is basically nuts, as I suggested when she started tossing around the phrase “blood libel” after she was unfairly attacked over the Tucson shootings. If she wins the Republican nomination, and even if she doesn’t but stops her fan base voting for the GOP, then she’ll have landed us with eight years of Obama – a sin crying out to heaven for the vengeance, as the old Catechism puts it.

Still, there’s something about the rounding up of anti-Palin commentators by “The Editors” that reminds me of ritual group denunciation in the Eastern Bloc. Also, I’m really not convinced by this observation:

Because of her popularity, many have been afraid to say openly about her what they whisper in private. But a few brave souls have stepped out and said about Sarah Palin what others think but are unwilling to say.

Actually, I don’t think you have to be brave to attack Sarah Palin, just willing to put up with the snarls of her supporters. And you won’t get many of those if you’re writing in the New York Times, where the brilliant Ross Douthat – one of the few columnists allowed to challenge the paper’s suffocating liberal pomposity – had this to say(continued)

__________

Yeah. that’s why they are keeping her name in the news and are practically begging her to run. Nothing to do with her solidly negative numbers in polling of the general electorate. Not because they want to run against her. Its because they are afraid of her.

This is a great opportunity to identify the moles in the conservative movement. The term “liberal” started to smell so bad that the left relabeled itself “progressive.” When progressive started to smell they started the ridiculous “no labels” group. Many leftist have tried to present themselves as conservatives. These “conservatives” will oppose any genuine conservative. Let the genuine conservatives, including Palin, compete for the nomination.

I clicked on that link and here is the first line of the first article The Republican Party has enjoyed a surprising resurgence after being declared dead in 2008.

The Republican Party should be surprised at their resurgence because the Republican Party had very little to do with it. They were too busy curled up in the fetal position, sucking their thumbs while Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin and the Tea Party folks went to work reclaiming our country. When it came to taking on Obama, the arrogant Republican establishment were nowhere to be found.

Could this be a “black” operation aimed at sowing disinformation? Could someone such as George Soros be behind it?

Yep! I would disagree with the "begging her to run" interpretation, tho...they're not trying to lure her, or keep her modestly viable as a candidate-hopeful, they're blatantly trying to destroy her no matter how deranged they expose themselves to be. That does not fit their patterns of trying to manipulate candidacy. They've been doing that for years and years and they always do it the same way...it's the only way they know how to do it. Just like when they decide to eliminate someone they think might actually upset their applecart. They do a small fraction of what they've already done to Sarah and make them go away. It's always worked before. But Sarah Palin is something they've never encountered before...they don't understand it, they've used every trick up their sleeve, double-scraped the bottom of their dirty-tricks barrel, and repeated them ad nauseum at every opportunity...and when they're done...she's still there. Smiling as she waves. They can't stand it, that's why they keep her in the news...it's just like in that Eagles song, man, "they stab it with their steely knives, but they just can't kill the beast!..."... :)

It would be foolish of them to destroy her. They want her to run. She polls as the most beatable of the pack.

I’m convinced that we have not heard from the strongest candidate yet.

Ooh, I’m with you, Titus. This doesn’t pass the smell test.

Debate Palin on issues, but they (RINOS and Liberals) won’t because they’re afraid of her. Why? She makes sense and the majority of Americans like common sense.

No surprise there.

This almost irritated me until I reflected upon the UK, the socialist, unemployed, no firearms, muslim overun, use to be mighty England. Their press, at least, wants the US to be so like the UK. Sometimes seems like they are getting their way.
