I read that piece yesterday. It’s FANTASTIC.
Don’t doubt for a minute that the Muslim Brotherhood is evil. Islam at its peak performance. WRONG for the world.
But also don’t doubt that the Egyptians will be a bigger challenge to the MB than even *I* thought. It’s going to take the most masterful deceit and evil the Brotherhood can muster.
Maybe that’s just me being hopeful, all things considered. But I’m usually a major anti-Islam pessimist, so there may be something to my assessment. Who knows?
Now that we’re through the nail biting period, it’s time to get focused on our own country again. Let’s get our act together before WE need a Tahrir Square.

1332: The BBC’s Khaled Ezzelarab reports there has been a stone-throwing clash between protesters in Tahrir Square. Meanwhile, the BBC’s Islam Saad says around 2000 supporters of Mr Mubarak have joined the Mustafa Mahmoud Square demo. He says: “They are waving Egyptian flags and chanting: ‘Yes to Mubarak, yes to stability. 30 years of peace.’”
1329: From the BBC’s Mark Georgiou in Cairo: “State TV has a split screen showing live shots of a pro-Mubarak rally on one side and the scene in Tahrir Square on the other. They describe the first as pro-stability and pro-dialogue and the latter as demanding political reforms. So, at the moment the two sides are busy with their separate rallies. The Tahrir Square crowd aren’t going anywhere. Across town Mubarak’s supporters are gathering.
1325: Al Jazeera’s Evan Hill tweets: “Talaat harb square east of tahrir is chaos now but the barricade itself not under attack, the fighting is in the street.”

Read full article and comments. my opinion .... when reading the article I came to "Gulp" (Kirsten Powers quote), and this was where I nodded my head, and the hair on the back of my neck stood up. Reading the comments, I wanted to think about each one carefully. There were (imho) great opinions and not so great opinions. What did not surprise me is, there is a stand that all are taking who have an opinion, and lines are being drawn in the proverbial sand. This actually is not a thing of worry to me. Now I know someone will ask me the question of what is. To be clear, I am a God fearing Conservative. I am not always correct, I am a human, just as all here on this (God created) planet on which we live are. I do not have all the solutions, and God moves in a mysterious way. Which I am comforted by. I simply am speaking for myself, and nobody else, because each of us has an opinion. What would this world be without opinions? Let me stop here, please, there is so much to do, which is good. And pardon me please, if I should sound excited, for I am not.

Iran’s Khamenei calls for Islamic regime in Egypt

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Friday called for an Islamic regime to be installed in Egypt, saying the wave of Arab revolts is an “earthquake” triggered by the 1979 Iranian revolution.

It just occurred to me. The Arab world is calling this Egypt’s ‘Day of Hegira’(Hijra)?
Oh yeah, he is sitting on the fence and most times, you sit on the fence, both sides fire at you in the crossfire and you end up getting impaled on the fence.
he is a total amateur, the protestors hate him, the egyptian Govt hate him, most of out allies in the middle east no longer trust us because they can see he drops them when the tough gets going.
Where do you go from here, nowhere because he has effectively screwed all the options and now backed into a corner.

Its something like 4:30pm there right now, its a friday, they say today is the ultimatum day, correct?
I saw a shot on CNN of a tank moving in, think things will get downright ugly soon?
They also say over a million people there as well now.
Thank you for the ping and the great article. HushTX has inspired a strange optimism in me today. I do hope that those in Egypt who really want a democracy will be able to withstand the power against them. I am praying for them.
It is also interesting that Egyptians are calling for Obama to step down. I have been thinking about how these movements have been orchestrated through the college age and young working class. If any type of “revolution” mindset is built in our country, it will be with this same group.
I hope and PRAY that those of us who are beyond this age and have negotiated the 60’s and 70’s will help our younger folks understand that our in-place system is very workable and we can bring about positive movements without revolution. Our current House is doing a great job, and Senate will be turned at the next election.
It may take a few years, but we will get back on track. The Progressive Age has reached it’s final days. Of that, I have no doubt. We just need to hold our ground until these young folks can get into leadership roles and they will then revolutionize our country back to the great nation it once was. They are our hope, but only if we help them.
