WASHINGTON — Republicans on Capitol Hill largely are supporting the Obama administration's take-it-slow approach on the crisis in Egypt, with one notable exception — Sen. Rand Paul, the face of the GOP's "tea party" wing.

House Speaker John Boehner of Ohio and Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky both endorsed the White House's actions in talk-show interviews Sunday.

"Our administration so far has handled this situation pretty well," Boehner said on Fox News.

Someone tell Boehner it's best to keep one’s mouth shut an be thought an idiot, than to open his mouth and be proven as one

The pronouncements coming from Gibby the press secretary mark the obozo team as idiots on dealing with this, and perhaps even having accelerated it occurring

Oh, that's swell... now maybe you two morons can explain exactly WHAT those actions have been; then, explain WHY those grandiose actions appear to be exacerbating and accelerating riots and mayhem in other countries in the region. Idiots.

Boehner is a carbon copy of Frist or Lott. They are spineless chameleons. He pointed out yesterday, the “importance” of raising the Debt Ceiling in the coming months.

We all know that if this were a Republican Administration, the Democrats would have separate press conferences over how incompetent this “administration” is and how dangerous the President's mishandling of this situation is.

Since 2010, absolutely NOTHING has changed in the GOP. If anything, they have become even more spineless. It took a smart Federal Judge to stop this Health Care insanity, or at least slow it down. The Republicans should have done that immediately, on the same grounds the judge did.

Thank God that we still have a few Judges who care about the Constitution and the direction this country is headed! The GOP sure as hell does not!

The clock is running on the speaker and so far it has mostly been down hill, he is below the positive line. I think we have a failure in the making.

For the most part, the entire GOP “leadership” has been a failure since ‘94!

I was very much opposed (can we still say “opposed” in this PC climate?) to Boehner being elected Speaker.

Dear Speaker Boehner,

Stop being polite for politeness’ sake.

If you have nothing conservative to say,

keep your mouth shut.

Thank you very much.

"Sen. Rand Paul, the face of the GOP's "tea party" wing"

Who says?

Silly how the left keeps trying to put a name, a leader, a party label, on the Tea Party movement. They just don't understand that the Tea Party is, in actuality, what they only pretend to be: a true inter-party grass-roots movement.

I know that Obama is a slimebag and a loser, but if I were President at this point in time, I don't know that I'd have any better ideas about what the U.S. response to the crisis in Egypt should be.

Just curious - what do other FReepers think we should be doing?

I agree, it's a tough situation. Don't act at all, and a dangerously unstable group like the Muslim Brotherhood could take over. Meddle, and you risk making matters at least as bad, while alienating the portion of the population (and opposition leaders) that may have been at least neutral to American interests.

Barring intelligence info I don't have access to, I can't imagine taking any "action" other than a noncommittal statement of support for the will of the Egyptian people and expectations of a fair and open election.
