[Update 8:38 p.m. Cairo, 1:38 p.m. ET] A team of heavily armed Marine Corps security personnel have been sent to the U.S. Embassy in Cairo to provide additional security for the facility, defense officials tell CNN. The small team of Marines, about a dozen according to one of the officials, are part of a Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team (FAST). The Marines are inside the embassy perimeter. Egyptian military and security forces continue to provide security outside the embassy, the officials said.

I think your concerns are well-founded.
There is a very good chance things will turn out very poorly for the members of this team.
The ones who are not killed by a mob because they have not been supplied with ammunition will end up being brought up on charges for harming ‘innocent’ civilian rioters.
Mooselibs are a peaceful bunch, no need to send in the marines.
“This took 6 days?”
The President has been quite busy....

Well, there are many kids tweeting the same line...we do not expect an Islamic gov.
The only problem is....no one believes them, with good reason.
I wonder how many of them were humming “fiddler’s green” while flying there...
Choosing which missions you wish to accept is not something soldiers in any branch have the luxury of.
With that said, I’d like to ‘second’ RoseofTexas’s prayer from Post #12.

Thanks for the pics of a FAST team.
Do you know, is this a relatively newly created force?
“They probably got the call this morning”
Yea, 0zer0’s right on top of this one, huh? Jimah Carter is being stripped of title as the ‘WORST PRESIDENT OUR COUNTRY HAS EVER SEEN’!
The USMC is the DEFINITION of "harm's way"
Have you seen the "Reporter's Guide to Firearms" graphic? It gets posted on FR occasionally.
Good Luck to these Marines. I'm wondering if they're there just to make things difficult enough so that the protesters move along to an easier mark.
Established in 1987, FAST companies provide a limited-duration, expeditionary security force to protect vital naval and national assets. FAST maintains forward-deployed platoons at various naval commands around the globe, and possesses U.S.-based alert forces capable of rapidly responding to unforeseen contingencies worldwide. Each FAST company is equipped and trains with some of the most state-of-the-art weaponry and currently consists of around 500 Marines.
The important question is whether they were issued rubber or real bullets.
Anything additional is only to make their job easier.

Yes, the Marines need our prayers. It is almost a given that even if the Embassy were under direct attack the Marines would not be given permission to defend either embassy personnel or themselves. Don’t believe me? Do you remember Tehran, 1979?
I noticed last night that the tweets from the Muslim youth protesters were talking about what lights were on in what windows of the US embassy.
I hope and expect we have men on the ground there that hear things.
