Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) broke unexpected ground this week, presenting a budget plan that included freezing Veterans Affairs health care spending and cutting veterans' disability benefits considerably.
To put it mildly, the Bachmann proposal has not gone over well among groups representing the needs and interests of veterans.

As I can tell you from the experience of my son with VA educational benefits, the place is incredibly bureaucratic and inefficient.
The VA is staffed by people who, for the most part, are very lazy and don’t care at all about veterans.
They should cut all the money that is being wasted on illegal immigrants who don’t even belong here. Not one penny should be taken away from our veterans until every cent is cut off from the non Americans who are leaching off the government.

I am willing to forego COLA increases to my retired pay indefintely, never receive SS or Medicare (tricare will screw me and my wfe just fine thank you) (just gotta have at least a portion of the $240k or so I “contributed” back to make that work-I won’t even bother with the $240k that employers tossed in too).
BUT FIRST, clean out all the non-contributors (other than US citizen widows and orphans), close teh borders hermetically tight, shoot anyone who breeches it, do away with about 40% or more of most federal agencies and eliminate all income taxes. No one but a citizen pays taxes on income rather than profit!
Small government with a robust Army and Navy (and USAF too)
I am all for a flat, fair tax in lieu of all this ridiculous graduated (unfair) tax stuff.

Worked for a jr college once in the early 70s as a vet counselor. My job was to go out to bars and such and find vets and tell them how much money they could get by attending college. I found four guys sitting under a tree drinking booze. And there were plenty of vets who did not know this. I quadripled the number of vet enrollment in one semester. Then the “federal funding” ran out and I moved on down the road.
Many of our Tea Party faves are blithely heading into media buzzsaws and and are gonna get chopped.
Even if they emerge relatively intact, the suspicion will remain “how could they have not known they would be savaged?”
Not one in a five hundred people of either sex could put up with the assault that has been launched against Sarah Palin. I hope Michele can handle what she is going to unleash upon herself.
I would prefer she proceeded a litle more gingerly and I will not diminish my support of her, but the impression is created that she does not know what she is doing walking into this type of hornet’s nest and so she *also* may not know what she’s doing over here, and over here.
Fix all those things you mentioned and there’d be no reason to cut vet benefits OR SS.

It’s as if a lot of Tea Partiers actually believe being media savvy is a negative trait.
All the Vets that I work with who are going to VA hospitals complain about the service they get there. I think that with a little judicious privatization, the Veteran's Health Care could be made both better and cheaper. But the ruling class obviously doesn't see it that way.

And so it begins. Every group is going to say they don’t want to be cut. Every group is going to say cut the other guy. This just goes to show that conservatives have their pet projects which leaves the liberal RATS laughing.
Everything should be on the table. Veterans (and I’m one) should be saying you can cut me as long as you cut others. At some point everything will be cut-when no one lends us any more money. It will be far worst then it could be if everyone just stepped up to the plate.
I think you meant “PTSD” and it is very, very real.
Not that every claim is legit, but the condition is awful.
Michele will have to learn that no matter how sensible or defensible, saying some things will give ammunition to the left.

I understand that. I was merely pointing out the egregious double-standard that exists. I have come to learn that if liberals accuse you of anything, it is only because they are already doing it.
