An earthquake has shaken the region" - The above headline from an Israeli newspaper describes with unfailing accuracy the pivotal events now taking place in the Middle East. In Egypt, the Arab worlds largest and most populous country of more than 80 million, massive demonstrations involving tens of thousands of people began on Tuesday in what was billed as a Day of Anger and are continuing despite a ban by a very rattled government. Smaller protests are likewise occurring in Jordan, Libya, Morocco and Algeria. The domino effect so feared by Middle Eastern strongmen after Tunisian protesters chased their president from power earlier this month after a 24-year rule may soon become reality in Egypt....
The disappearance of Arab strongmen like Tunisias ruler, and now possibly Mubarak, opens up the ominous and dangerous potential for a Khomeini-style 1979 Islamist victory befalling Egypt which would be a catastrophic development not only for American and Israeli security interests, but for the Egyptian people themselves. One need only recall Khomeinis killing fields and his Islamic Republics vicious history, continued to this day, to understand the horrifying consequences of Islamists succeeding in exploiting the current strife in Egypt to their benefit.
However corrupt Egypts regime may have been or continues to be, Mubarak succeeded in keeping the Islamists and the religious radicals in check. The Muslim Brotherhood, a major fundamentalist Egyptian opposition group that Mubarak had banned, will definitely try to take advantage of any further economic frustration or breakdown to set up the longed-for Islamic state, probably by promising those who have nothing that they will create a Muslim utopia of social justice, patterned after the Prophet Mohammads rule. That is the bait to hijack the revolution, like the Bolsheviks promised peace, land and bread to the uneducated, downtrodden Russian masses to get their support, only to bring in the Red Terror in return.
As history warns, the Islamists, if successful in seizing power, will internally perpetrate a Khmer Rouge/Khomeini-type bloodbath the likes of which Egypt has never seen before. The first victims will most likely be the countrys religious minorities. Externally, they will involve Egypt in a jihad/war against Israel, Europe or the Shiites and, like Iran, strive to build nuclear weapons.
Steny Hoyer and Zero had better STOP supporting the Islamofascist for starters. But what you are hearing Hillary and Obama calling on MUBAREK to not use force to stop the Muslim Brotherhood. THAT is pure and simple support of the terrorist. From Tunisa to Yemen to Eqypt this Administration is fomenting the rise of Islamofascist in the Arab world.
Did you support Obama giving a speech in Egypt fomenting the Islamofascist?
Well we are now reaping the whirlwind that Obama released on the people of the arab world.
Looks to me like Islam is about to regain the power it had in 800AD maybe even greater power(1500 AD). Not good news for the Western World. Islam is now fully awake, be sure to thank Jimmy Charter, the absolute worst president in a long (recent) history of terrible presidents.
Helping an unpopular and oppressive dictator be even more unpopular and oppressive is the solution? Why not? It worked so well in South Vietnam.
My sentiments exactly.
You gotta be kidding. Obama actively fomented this trouble by turning inward and directing all his energies to domestic policies.
When's the last time you heard Obama even the address the WOT or hostile countries? When has he met with a leader other than celebrating commie China with a state dinner?
Our allies have not been encouraged. In such a vacuum the enemy rises. No mystery here.
Is it so surprising that under the furthest left President we have had the radical Muslims are threatening to take over? The biggest gift to Obama would be to parrot the belief that he did nothing to encourage it and it would have happened anyway. This is plain not true.
Oil has jumped $4 a barrel within the last few hours.
We are seeing the beginning of a giant implosion of the Obama facade.
Are we ready? Ofcourse not.
People are talking about who attends a meeting in the Senate.
Will the demonstrations tomorrow by the supporters of Islamofascist sink into the thick skulls of Americans?
Probably not.
What will it take?
Well, it won’t end well for the people of Egypt, or any people for that matter, but according to the Carnegie Institute, genocide is the best insurance against global warming:

The greenies must be ecstatic!
Bottom lime they had no economy or jobs before the revolution and they will have no economy or jobs after the revolution. The problem is not their system of government, It is the Islamic mindset.
Solution is to get rid of the Democrats one way or another.. Negate all anti- energy bills passed in last 40 years and become self sufficient.Form an alliance with Putin and send all the Muslim radicals to hell as soon as possible.
Overthrow Planned in Detail
According to a report in the Hebrew-language daily Maariv, Mubarak has reason for concern, as those organizing the demonstrations have planned his overthrow in detail. Documents spelling out how to revolt against the administration reportedly include satellite images of strategic sites and major intersections.
The documents, given to activist leaders, also include instructions on how to seize Mubarak’s presidential palace, television and radio stations, and the seats of local government throughout the country, according to the report.

You’re wrong. The dictator in Egypt is a “son of a bitch” but he’s ours “son of a bitch”. Just like the Shah in Iran. And look at what happened since then. Do we really need to go through all of this again?
“It worked so well in South Vietnam.”
What happened in Iran while Carter was in office is more apropo here.
Hence the comparison of BO to Carter.
Do you feel the same about Juan McLame?..
No, it's also what they DO.
When you have Madame Sec'y out there saying that the US has been messing up at every turn and that civil rights is the highest priority, these radicals will tend to follow her lead.
France will surrender and England will ignore it...........
Mubarak is distasteful but the US should be supplying his security forces with anti-riot equipment, at a minimum. We should resposition the fleet that is off the coast of Lebanon at the ready to take the Suez Canal, in case it should be lost.
As we should release those weapons (big bombs) Bush promised Israel but which Obama has withheld. If I am properly informed they are on a base in Europe ready to be dispatched but not yet.
For starters.
The problem is that Obama and the State Dept (and Europe) have done nothing. Each move by the Islamists requires a counter move by the US and EU. We did nothing when Iranians went to the street so Iran went to Lebanon and effectively rules it now. (We did nothing as Syria and Iran lent Hezbullah all the weapons it wanted, too). We did nothing to help Tunisia.
They perceive we are too bogged down in Iraq and Afghanistan, and that we are too preoccupied by our economic issues to do anything. Wrong. We need to counter every move in some way. Truly, this is a culture clash and we pretend not to understand how they view the world and behavior. We pretend to think that they think like we do. That is simply not true.
Exactly. See my post above.
What fleet off the coast of Lebanon?
This is almost all being run from, at the least inspired by, Tehran. The Iranian protesters who wanted their government to change were left in the cold rain by the US and EU. They got clobbered by the Iranian regime. This inspired Iran to take further action, and doused the dreams of the democrats in Iran and the Mid East in general.
Even before this, Iran was supplying weapons and advising Hezbullah. They have now effected a coup in Lebanon without firing a shot, and neutered the UN Hariri murder tribunal (which took WAY TOO LONG to get going).
This inspired the actions in Tunisia, which then inspired the actions in Egypt. And there were plenty of other things happening in between, these are the broad strokes.
What did the west do? We changed military leaders in Afghanistan (appearance=we were weak there) and projection of weakness inspires the opposition to take more actions. Stuxnet? Well maybe that put Iran’s nuke program back a few years, maybe it didn’t, but Iran doesn’t need nukes if they can control outer rims of the mid east.
Look at it like a chess board. Egypt and Tunisia gone. Lebanon gone. Syria and Iran, next probably Yemen. The Islamists control the perimeters. Saudi may be stable and pro-western but it is not in a position to be of much help and when push comes to shove Islam comes first with them too - the rulers may not be all that devout but the people are and the rulers have to play ball with the people.
Our best bet, perhaps, is to make a play for Syria. Syria might feel left out of all this. Used by Iran and then ditched. Syria always felt Lebanon was theirs to control, and now they see it in the hands of Iranian proxies. But what price, and what would we ask of them? Peace with Israel and military bases would have to be our minimum asking price in broad strokes, simply to prevent the axis from turning completely upside down.
I believe it’s the 6th fleet, which is combined with NATO and includes some European vessels. It was put there after the war between Israel and Lebanon as part of the truce.
