SAN ANTONIO - Deborah Gonzalez says she is pretty heated with Hertz Rent A Car on San Pedro Avenue. Gonzales and her family say they found a loaded gun in a car they rented last week.
"I was horrified," said Gonzalez. "I couldn't even speak. I broke down crying because there was a loaded gun in my hands, and I don't know where it came from."
Gonzalez says she was riding in the car with her 2-year-old and 3-year-old grandchildren. She stumbled across the gun while picking up a child's shoe that fell under the driver's seat.
"I kept yanking, and yanking, and yanking because I could feel something."
Gonzalez says the incident has left her family traumatized.
"A lot of lives could have been ruined," said Gonzalez. "Mine! My kids! Lives could have been taken!"
A worker at the Hertz location would not give News 4 WOAI too many details, but said it is possible the car wasn't cleaned properly.
Gonzalez's family says that is no excuse for putting the children's safety at risk.
"It's very disappointing that a company that big could be so careless," said Gonzalez's husband, Marquis Stevens.
Gonzalez reported the gun to Converse Police Department. Officers say they have seized the gun and are treating it as a "found property" case.
The worried mom is now urging other drivers to use caution when renting a car.
News 4 WOAI is still waiting for an explanation about the incident from Hertz management.
Very dramatic.
It also brings up the question: How did this drama queen - so terrified and horrified by a gun - even know it WAS loaded?
I can’t imagine such a ditz would know how to check the clip (if it had one) or inspect the chambers.
Yes, loaded guns in rental cars are known to drive around neighborhoods shooting people.
Much like how accidents involving SUVs are usually the fault of the SUV... maybe driven by a loaded gun...
“”I couldn’t even speak. I broke down crying because there was a loaded gun in my hands, and I don’t know where it came from.””
IDIOT
You would be surprised what can turn up in a cleaned patrol car.
This is a convenient safety option---
Way to go Hertz....
Doubtless -- soon too be dba = HURTS!
Gotta love it!
I think she’s already got a lawyer and is looking for a big payout. Her screeching sounds a little unreal, like she’s using the press to prime a future jury.
Some of her issues are not logical.
Oh brother -- spare me. Methinks the Gonzalez' are simply greasing the skids to profit legally from this happenstance.
I’d see that as a bonus, depending I guess.
Some people have all the luck.
Far more likely this panic driven idiot would over correct on a lane change and kill her entire family than that loaded gun killing her....
"A lot of lives could have been ruined," said Gonzalez. "Mine! My kids! Lives could have been taken!"
And the Oscar goes to...
re: broke down crying
Shakes head in disgust. Makes me love my wife even more. She would have just kept it and not said a damn thing.
Be interesting if the cereal (pun) numbers were removed, or her fingerprints were the ONLY prints on the gun.
I'm not saying she "planted" it...I'm just saying...
“It’s very disappointing that a company that big could be so careless,” said Gonzalez’s husband, Marquis Stevens.
Hey Mr. Stephens! The entire company did not put the gun in your rental car. It probably fell out of the pocket of one of the cleaning guys.
I NEVER find free guns in rental cars, just stale Cheetos. Actually every attempt should be made to return it to the man that owns it but we all know that actually now some cop has a new gun with no papers.
Free gun ping!
So can I rent a cleaned patrol car at Hertz?
Personally I’m looking for an MP-5, scary sniper rifle, and possible some body armor so you’d better make it a swat vehicle.
She looked down the barrel. DUH!
Got hysteria?
I broke down crying because there was a loaded gun in my hands, and I don’t know where it came from.”
Tears of joy!
