Sarah Palin's Way Forward
The American Thinker ^ | January 28, 2011 | J.R. Dunn

Posted on 01/28/2011 12:10:20 AM PST by Scanian

It's apparent that the recent media attacks on Sarah Palin have, for the first time, actually drawn blood. Palin's negatives have shot up substantially, rising 7 points from 49% to 56%. The proximate cause is held to be the fact that she defended herself against the charge of complicity in murder in the Tucson shootings, along with engaging in some unclear variety of anti-Semitism by using the term "blood libel." It's safe to say that no other current politician would ever be held to such standards.

This slump is surely temporary -- no more permanent than Obama's miniscule "leap" in popularity over the same period. If political careers could be knocked out so easily, they'd last a matter of weeks at most. Such variations are typical of any politician's career. The only odd thing here is the fact that Palin has gone so long without such a slump.

Governor Palin has received a lot of advice on how to handle the situation, all of it well-meant and some of it quite valuable. One example is Charles Krauthammer's suggestion that it's not necessary to answer every last attack. The murder accusation was so absurd that it could have been left to collapse under its own weight. On the other hand, it's easy to grasp how any fundamentally decent person would find it difficult to resist answering.

But such advice -- in fact, all the comments related to Palin's current situation -- overlooks one basic fact: that the leftist attacks on Governor Palin are in no way new, not even in their viciousness. They are simply the latest examples of a tactic in use for generations -- one that has given the left considerable advantage, and one that the American center-right has utterly failed to address.

You are right. Her life is a reproach to the Liberals who harbor and defend atheists, perverts, criminals and traitors while preaching do-good sermons. Their money isn’t where their mouth is, and Sarah’s is!

Anybody have a pool set up for when Sarah officially and publicly announces her decision to run for POTUS?

Gov. Palin vs. The Left is a fascinating phenomenon: She embodies everything they lack.

She can do the job and she will do it effectively. She has a spine of steel.

Not only does she have a spine of steel, she also is not an extension of the corrupt GOP machinery and is not spewing their rhetoric. Her hands are clean and I hope she isn't manipulated into soiling them.

Charles Krauthammer’s suggestion amounts to adopting the George Bush policy on responding to attacks. We know very well where that got Dubya. Why would Sarah use the same lame defense strategy?

Nope, Sarah gonna tell it like it is, and the world can like it or lump it, and personally I'll take the latter!

I would love to see her do it when she speaks at the Ronald Reagan 100th birthday event coming up soon!

Sarah needs to "renounce" the useless, pointless United Nation's idiotic, non-binding, un-enforceable "Law of the Sea?" And if she doesn't, she's as dangerous as "The Bush's"?

You're the one who is dangerous, if you actually believe that anything the United Nations has to say, on any topic, has any impact on how, when, where, if, why, or whether we will do what we need to do in America's best interests.

She may as well "renounce" the "Chicken Of The Sea" tuna for all the difference it would make. Which reminds me... you are the second or third person I've heard say this. It's pretty clear that this "Old Man And The Sea" garbage is just another lame excuse for the few who already hate Palin anyway.

Can't you all just man up and speak the plain truth? You don't like Palin, and nothing she says or does will change that.

I hereby renounce the "Law of the Simp," and if I don't... I'm more dangerous than a Douglas fir.

LMAO

She has promised a couple of Alaskan radio talking heads {her buddies} that if/when she announces that it will be on their radio show.

There are plenty of people that follow God's principles in life but yet are weak and run. Palin does have a spine of steel (figuratively speaking of course) and it's been tempered. You must not be paying attention.

Krauthammer's advice doesn't come with any concern for Sarah Palin. No, he wants her to stay quiet because he, like many of the "elites", are embarrassed by the Sarah Palins of the world who think they are as good as him.

Sarah, you do what ever you think is right! We peasants have your back!

Sarah Palin needs to renounce the Law of the Sea Treaty, which she has supported and make it known she is against Rockefeller globalism.

Until she does, she is generally as dangerous and wrong as the Bushes.

"She does NOT have a spine of steal. She understands what works. God’s Principles."

Not to be rude, but you're wrong, at least on that first part. You explain why in your next paragraph.

"Anyone can be like Sarah Palin if they stick to God’s Principles over the latest politically correct themes that rule the day. She REALLY stands out because most do not follow God’s Principles."

You actually NEED a spine of steel to follow Gods Principles, especially in today's world.

I guess that makes you both right and wrong at the same time.

Perhaps you can enlighten us on just which version of the LOST you are referencing, and to which provisions you are/were opposed, rather than just repeating the same ignorant rant again.

Hint: All the versions of LOST are NOT the same. The letter from Gov. Palin to Sen. Ted Stevens was written in 2007, and it specifically referenced the issues in that current version of LOST, and specifically referenced the US and Alaskan rights to the coastal resources of Alaska.

It's Time to ratify Law of the Sea Treaty
Anchorage Daily News
January 14, 2004

In 1982, the United Nations completed work on a treaty called U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea. The United States objected to the original treaty and during renegotiation in 1994 gained agreement on changes to those parts to which we objected.

As with all treaties, after negotiation and signing the treaty was submitted to the Senate for its "advice and consent." The Law of the Sea treaty went to the Senate nine years ago, where for several reasons nothing happened.

Now it appears that things are about to change. Sen. Richard Lugar, chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, held two hearings in October, then stated his goal was to present a letter of advice and consent to the president early in 2004.

More than 140 nations have ratified the treaty. The treaty is wide-ranging, and it is clearly in the interests of the United States to ratify. Our nation is surrounded by three oceans. The oceans are an integral part of the lives of every American.

Alaska, with more than half the coastline of the United States, could well be profoundly affected by ratification in the generations ahead. But the time is now for Alaskans to start thinking about changes that will be facilitated by the treaty.

The first witness to testify before the Foreign Relations Committee last October was Sen. Ted Stevens, who testified in favor of ratification.

What are the challenges and opportunities that may well be presented Alaskans in the later years of the 21st century?

They all center about the changing climate and the extended periods of access to the Arctic Ocean and the Bering Sea. With less ice come both concerns and opportunities. They center around international security, national security, marine transportation, economic development and diplomacy.

International security is a growing concern everywhere. Alaska has the only U.S. coastline on the Arctic Ocean. It is more than 1,000 miles long and sparsely populated. This provides numerous locations for illegal entry, drug trafficking and other terrorist activity. Counters to this vulnerability might come in several forms: increased presence, increased surveillance.

As the Arctic Ocean becomes more accessible by non-ice-strengthened ships, it becomes another ocean that must be protected. The United States, as the world's last superpower, must assume that role. That means the Navy must build ships that can operate in free-floating ice and extreme cold weather. That means the Coast Guard should establish a real Arctic Ocean presence. Failure to take such steps will cede control of the Arctic to whichever nation chooses to assume it.

Naturally, a more accessible Arctic will mean increased intercontinental maritime shipping. The journey between Seattle and Hamburg, using the Arctic Ocean route, is 40 percent shorter than the routes through either of the canals. Extending the shipping season using ice-strengthened ships could demand conventional cargo exchange facilities, where cargo can be transferred between ice-strengthened and conventional ships. Ports such as Adak or Dutch Harbor come to mind.

Ratification of the Law of the Sea treaty will have the greatest effect on economic development in Alaska. After conducting the required ocean bottom surveys, the United States will be able to extend the outer limits of its continental shelf and claim the resources on or under the sea floor on the Chukchi Cap in the Arctic and the "doughnut hole" in the Bering Sea. Some estimate that the area gained will be as much as one-half the size of Alaska. The fossil fuel potential of these areas is unknown but will be evaluated carefully.

On the diplomatic front, completing the surveys with Canada could also provide data for creation of an agreed Arctic Ocean maritime boundary between our countries.

Ratification of the Law of Sea treaty will create opportunity for Alaska. It will require research and stimulate new education needs. Most importantly, it will demand that we all think of the future, well beyond the horizon of two to six years normally used in our country. Though changes in the Arctic may occur over generations, properly preparing will take decades. Truly, the future is now.

George Newton is serving his second term as chair of the U.S. Arctic Research Commission. He is a retired Navy captain and a former nuclear submarine commander and has long been a supporter of research in Alaska. He lives in McLean, Va.

Every version of LOST has been bad. Thank you for engaging in a conversation about this. It is very important and Gov. Palin must reconsider, may God give her wisdom. Here:

I suggest starting with Henry Lamb’s article.

Sarah has publicly said, on her TV show, that if she decides to run she would make the first announcement on the radio with the morning DJ’s from Wasilla.
