King County has settled with the family of a man who was severely injured by sheriff's deputies in 2009 for $10 million.
Christopher Sean Harris, from Edmonds, suffered permanent brain damage when he was tackled by deputies in May 2009. Harris' family filed a civil lawsuit against King County, claiming deputies used unnecessary force when they arrested him after a chase, knocking his head into a wall.
John Cobb, the senior prosecutor on the case for the county, confirmed the settlement five days after the civil trial began on January 20. The settlement is believed to be the largest of its type against King County.
Harris' wife said the settlement will help care for her husband, but it can't change the fact that he is still paralyzed and can't speak.

Hey I’m not denying they are humans.
I just think somewhere along the way, many of them had their conscious removed and replaced with a large phallic symbol.
If you had a job dealing with the most undesirable percent of the population every day of the week, how patient do you think you would be?
Right.
We don't have the freedom to choose our career in this country. We are forced into jobs we don't want.
I must have forgotten. /s
“Family Wins Record $10 Million Dollars When Cop Slams Innocent Man Causing Coma!”
This doesn’t strike me as much of a “win” - The title makes it sound like these people won the lottery.
I didn’t see this guy doing any of the things you mentioned. This cop didn’t ‘try to stop him from running’, he attacked him brutally.
Let that rattle around in your head for a few. This wasn't some beat cop. It was a Police Commander, torturing suspects, lying about it under oath, later convicted and sentenced to four years in prison and they still can't strip him of his pension.
That's why I think that public officials that engage in that level of abuse of power should forfeit their lives
police, Prosecutorial and official misconduct should be tried by grand jury outside the regular courts and should result in very severe sentences if found guilty
It so easy to feel that way when it happens to the other guy. Walk in the parent shoes for one day and see if your tune changes.
The Fraternal Order of Police paid for his defense.
Who cares? The taxpayer is on the hook for 10 million because of what this cop/cretin did. They should take the 10 mill from the police department pension fund. Maybe if the cop retirees had to squeak by on 60K per year for life instead of 70K, it might get some heads to roll. No pun intended.
I wish the pension was 60-70K. but it is not. Pension is 50% after twenty years, and 2.5% for every year after that. Police contribute 9.5 percent of their pay towards the pension fund and the city matches it 2 to 1 ratio. People fall for the nonsense that police get fat pensions. Wake up, we aren't the enemy.
If you read my post you would realize I wasn't referring to the the cop injuring that kid, I was commenting on a Chicago Police Commander the poster alluded to.

What police? Where? You wrote that as if it's the pension structure for every police force in the US.
Some are stingier, but many are much more generous.
It's called a 401K. Look into it. I have one that my employer doesn't match at all. My wife has one that her employer matches up to 8%. That's damned good in the private sector. You have a 2-1 match with a guaranteed (defined benefit) payout.
The private sector has no such thing. So even though you think it ain't that great, it's a damned sight better than what us working proles, who are paying your salary AND those matches, get.
As far as not being the 'enemy' goes you might try telling your peers that. Because out here what with all the stories of cops shooting family pets, tossing flash bang grenades into old ladies homes because of bad tips from "CI's", covering up botched drug raids, ad infinitum, some of you are taking on the distinct appearance of enemies.

50% of what? 50% of the 20-year average? 50% of the last year's salary?
50% of your final years salary after 20 years. So if promoted or received a raise, they would have to stay one year to get pension at that rate. New hires are under a new two tier system where their highest eight out of last ten years would determine pension. Sorry it took so long to respond I was out of town for the weekend.
