After claiming that the Nation was "poised for progress", the stock market was "roaring back" and the "back of the recession had been broken" he called the Nation to "win the future" through innovation, education and the rebuilding of our infrastructure. In the first half of the speech he also outlined a governing approach to accomplishing these policy goals which positioned federal funding and federal assistance as making it possible for us to "reinvent ourselves."
The President told both chambers of Congress that we could be in our "Sputnik moment" explaining, "Our free enterprise system is what drives innovation. But because it's not always profitable for companies to invest in basic research, throughout history our government has provided cutting-edge scientists and inventors with the support that they need. That's what planted the seeds for the Internet. That's what helped make possible things like computer chips and GPS.
"Just think of all the good jobs - from manufacturing to retail - that have come from those breakthroughs..."
...The Republican response was given by Wisconsin Republican Paul Ryan, the House Budget Committee Chairman. While showing respect to the President, he laid out a very different governing vision stating, "We believe government's role is both vital and limited - to defend the nation from attack and provide for the common defense . to secure our borders. to protect innocent life. to uphold our laws and Constitutional rights . to ensure domestic tranquility and equal opportunity . and to help provide a safety net for those who cannot provide for themselves.

Obama wants us to "make stuff and invent things."
Now get to it!
....but but he went to the middle....?????....talks a lot and say’s nothing....
Obama turns out to be like the Peter Sellers character in the movie “Being There”. We, of course, figured out early that he was a simple minded man. The rest of the country knows that too.
Obama is coming really close to being someone easily made fun of and laughed at. Once that starts there will be no stopping it.
He really should take a tip from Jerry Ford and get buttons made. I mean, really, who wouldn’t love to have a “WTF” button? I know I’d love to have a “WTF” button. I bet you would too.
yeah, I heard that. We’ll see if a prolonged battle over gun control helps democrats hold the senate in 2012 or lose it. My money is on the latter. we’ll have to watch this closely never the less.
Ok, now that's funny right there.
Just like Ford's "Whip Inflation Now" (WIN) pins, I look forward to seeing "WTF!" pins all over DC and the nation.
GE is to Pratt & Whitney what GM is to Ford...gubmint playing favorites
President Dude is a Stalinist. Stalin liked big building projects that illustrated “what big government could do.”
Because so much of our earnings are diverted to things like tolls (toll operators are in the Teamsters Union and every time you pay a toll, the majority of what you pay is to pay that jackass to sit in the booth and grip that you are not handing him the money kindly enough and to fatten their pensions) “”””
Speaking of tolls:
There is a movement afoot in San Francisco to close ALL the toll booths on the Golden Gate Bridge & make everyone who is using the bridge pay with a ‘Fast Pass” type of system. You open an electronic account with the bridge operator system & put in a deposit & every time you pass thru, it deducts from that deposit.
Then they can close ALL of the toll booths.
One big question:
What about TOURISTS?
I cannot imagine that this would be profitable to do, when you have a fair amount of tourist activity in SF & they spend alot of money every year to promote such tourism.
I am also sure that other users of the bridge are not even ‘tourists’- such as myself when I went to a horse event & crossed that bridge, with my dually & horse trailer.
I sure don’t want to go thru a worse part of town & cross over on another bridge.
How about trucking companies?
Obama was slamming our country during The State of the Union which he said was "good".
The plan is to make more taxpayers to feed the liberal machine. Slam the children and their parents but then steal all their money for the common good.
2012 can't arrive soon enough.
The guy who never had a real job wants us to make stuff. He’s definitely the manchurian candidate but will his fan club members ever wake up?

What is it with all of these lefties and their trains? Didn’t they get a train under the Christmas tree when they were kids?
We already have that on the East Coast, called EZ Pass.
What I object to is the fact that the same portion of your toll money is going to the unions to do no work. The other objection is that the government can then use that digital data to track your coming and going, how fast you are traveling, etc.
And you know with that digital data, they will eventually move over to the “public” roads to track and eventually establish a “travel tax” for how many miles you drive (which they have already proposed a couple of times in Washington and Oregon using satellite and GPS technology.)
“Pelosi appeared on Greta and looked and sounded like an absolute fool.”
Wow I really felt like Pelosi was really trying way to hard to make Greta and whoever was watching this waxfaced numbskull to believe her. Greta looked like she was getting a bit uncomfortable with Pelosi and her begging. Pelosi is an absolute dingbat. I would love to see Bachmann or Palin debate her...would be like The Steelers playing a grade school team...
very good observation
I didn’t hear that. My morning guys were wondering why he was silent on the second amendment after the Giffords shooting. I believe that his handlers don’t see any way he can win on or benefit from the gun issue, so they’re just ignoring it.
As for the rest, what about his speech was new? He talked like Reagan to promote libcom pets in the campaign. He has been using investment as a euphemisn for spending as long as I can remember. He’s been on the green jobs and infrastructure thing all along too. His pronouncements on the economy (and Biteme’s too) remind me of Bush 41 defending Dan Quayle’s popularity. The only new thing I heard about was him not bashing Bush or his inheritance.
Mr. President, where’s the beef?
Resign.
you conservatives are allows misquoting the “President” he never said that the million cars on the road would actually be moving!,just that they would be on the road. That would be silly, we don’t have the electric grid to handle a million cars actually running on the freeways. After all the President is not a complete fool,Right!
