Public reaction to LPD's investigation in Elizabeth Ennen case (Lubbock, Texas)

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - As the investigation continues into Elizabeth's death, frustrated citizens have questions for the Lubbock Police Department. People have posted concerns on the police department and KCBD's Facebook page. Comments have also been found on Craigslist and other public forums.

Most of the questions ask LPD why two weeks went by before police viewed surveillance tapes from the motel where Elizabeth was last seen. One person posted the following on LPD's Facebook page: "You can ignore us but we can be in your face for answers either through the Chief or Mayors Office."

Captain Greg Stevens was unavailable for comment Tuesday as they continued their on-going investigation. Stevens did address some of these public's concerns in an interview with CNN'S Martin Savidge.

"There's a misconception that if it's considered a runaway that it's simply shoved to the side and put in a drawer, and that is simply not the case. The case is assigned to an investigator right away, and this was no different," Stevens told Savidge.

Stevens said because they had no reason to believe Ennen was taken, she was classified as an endangered runaway. "In this particular case, there were no indications; at least none immediately apparent, that showed the officer that she was gone involuntarily right then," he said.

Her mother told police that kidnapping suspect Humberto Salinas Jr. was a family friend and they had no reason to suspect his involvement. In the beginning of their investigation police didn't have any other leads to go on. "The problem there is if the officer doesn't have any place to start looking, if there's no report that a person was dragged into a car or was dragged from the theater, was dragged from the park, or something like that, there's no place to start looking," Stevens.

There are some comments in support of how police handled the investigation. In a local forum one writes; "Maybe the police could have done something different in this case but don't blame them for this."

KCBD NewsChannel 11 still doesn't know why it took two weeks for police to view surveillance tapes from the Carriage House Inn and Suites, the last place Elizabeth was seen. The police will be asked that and several other questions during time with Captain Stevens. He expects to be available tomorrow.

No kidding and I wondered what happened that the mother ran from the room.

It doesn’t say she ran to it...

Why did she go there?

Did her mom instinct tell her the guy was suspect and she tried to ignore her mom-dar?

Looks like the police may have blown it a little, from what there is to read thus far.

So very sad.
