“who doesn’t want a mercury-filled glowing tube “

Not to mention what happens when they break — you can inhale deeply the wonderful, poisonous mercury vapors.

It’s the perfect irony in a liberal idea ... dim bulbs brought to you by dim bulbs. If I didn’t joke about this shit I’d go crazy. Or crazier.

“Regarding CFLs, I don’t know why people are so slow to accept them.”

Not too mention the $3,000 HAZMAT response if you break one, and follow EPA clean up rules...

Ventilation, a special vac, etc.
And we haven’t even BEGUN to discuss the BILLIONS and BILLIONS of dollars it’s going to take to clean the mmercury out of the landfills in 20 years.

Just unscrew them when they go out and very carefully drop them in the trash.

“If every American home replaced just one incandescent bulb with one CFL, the corresponding cut in greenhouse gas emissions would equal the amount of pollutants produced by more than 800,000 vehicles...”

And if the government would allow building of nuclear plants, we could use as much electricity as we want, without the generation of “greenhouse gases”.

I just find the entire legislation useless. If I want my 100w incandescent bulbs, why can’t I have them?

You should be able buy incandescent, cfl, halogen or led without a government mandate.

Let’s not forget the seizure inducing ‘fluttering’ when the bulb starts to lose its charge. That’s fun on the brain!

Sure, because everyone breaks lightbulbs on purpose... And what if a kid gets into your trash and breaks the CFL bulb, releasing the mercury — are his parents going to sue the government for poisoning their kid?

It is useless.

However, I plan to buy a ton of bulbs and repackage them as a High-Efficiency Illuminated Heating Device. 95% of the energy it uses gets converted to heat.

“You should be able buy incandescent, cfl, halogen or led without a government mandate.”

This is exactly the point.

Well... in my small town, I got the garbage police on my case for throwing my trash in the city bins. Oh well, that’s what we’ll look forward to once they discover broken CFLs in the landfills!

“Wait until the stupid rich liberals can’t have their dimming switches in their formal dining rooms.”

Um, do you seriously think this will affect them? These laws are for us serfs, not for them. They’ll have all the dimmable incandescent lights they want. We’ll live in the dark.

It’s not just physically accurate, it’s metaphorically accurate as well. Or at least so they think...

“get GE Reveal neodymium bulbs”

Well, China just nationalized their rare earth mines. And we can’t develop ours thanks to Obastard’s EPA. So good luck with that in the near future...

What happens when they break? Well, how about you get an exploding cloud of fire. PS This isn't some nut, this is John Lott of "More Guns, Less Crime" - a Freeper to boot.

We switched about a year ago, just because of the money saved.

Every time I go to Walmart, I buy a few light bulbs. I’ve got a nice little cache so far, but it needs to be bigger.

The GOP should push to repeal this law as well.

Why would they when they helped make it law? Lest we forget, the 2007 Energy Independence and Security Act which is responsible for this stupidity passed the Senate 86-8 and the House 314-100. Bush signed it into law. It was driven by the Democrats, but it couldn't have become law without the GOP.

We are governed by meddling busybodies who we elected to office. We're reaping what we've sown.

"neodymium... is that a rare earth mineral?"

Only just about the most important one, for example for things like smart bombs and night vision.

Not your fault for not knowing -- the lack of science education in our country is intentional, and just for this very reason: Even a politically educated Freeper (sorry, you in this case) doesn't understand the implications of terms like "rare earth" on tech, the military, the economy, and the world.

PS I have a couple science degrees and a post-grad in non-science, so I'm not you're average bear. So don't feel bad about not seeing this link. The vast majority of people don't.
