Under federal law, incandescent bulbs are being phased out beginning next year when American manufacturers no longer will be allowed to make 100-watt bulbs.
But while Thomas Edison's invention is slowly being dimmed into retail oblivion, consumers have been slow to accept the two emerging alternative technologies, known as CFLs and LEDs. The main complaints: CFLs, or compact fluorescent lights, cast a harsh, greenish beam, unlike the warm, amber glow of incandescents. LEDs are expensive and relatively unknown among American shoppers. Neither variety is universally available in dimmer form and, therefore, not always ideal for people partial to mood lighting.
The law "effectively bans the sale of most incandescent light bulbs."

It’s only one year away.
LOL
Wait until the stupid rich liberals can’t have their dimming switches in their formal dining rooms.
The GOP should push to repeal this law as well.
Neodymium CFL bulbs are tolerable... LED light still isn’t available in a floor lamp. Its good for a reading light lamp though.
“Wait until the stupid rich liberals cant have their dimming switches in their formal dining rooms.”
Wait a min, I have a dimming switch in my formal dining room...it’s built into the wall. How is that going away?
“The GOP should push to repeal this law as well.”
They are trying, but need to try harder.
Is it lights out for light bulbs?

“In 2007, Congress passed new bulb standards requiring at least a 25% increase in efficiency for 100-watt bulbs by 2012 and smaller-wattage bulbs by 2014, leading to the replacement of incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent (CFL) and halogen bulbs. Barton’s bill, the Better Use of Light Bulbs (BULB) act, was introduced in September. He wants to nullify the standards, which he claims cost U.S. jobs and are a safety hazard. “
You can keep your switch, but it won’t work with the CFL lightbulbs, they can’t be dimmed.
Good luck with that coming up for a vote in the Senate.
I don’t care, even if the new bulbs were much better than the incandescent ones — let ME decide, NOT the government.
People accept this — and this is no different, than when the government will decide what medical treatment you should or shouldn’t have, just because they CAN.
They have dimmable CFL light bulbs now. They are more expensive than regular CFL bulbs.
Agreed. I don’t think its the government’s business to tell us what light bulbs to use or what health care plan to buy. That should be OUR decision!
I’m the manager of the electrical department at a hardware store here in E-Town, Ky, and I have had a number of customers coming in over the past few months, purchasing large quantities of incandescent bulbs so that they can establish a large stockpile before the ban goes into effect.
Just great.
Large wattage bulbs harder to get? Just install lots of light sockets. That's what I'll do. Every room will have several chandeliers. Instead of a couple 100 watt bulbs, I'll use a bunch of 20 or 30 watt bulbs. And I can keep using my dimmer switches in every room.
You can have your switch, but the bulbs won’t dim.
Is it still a dimming switch at that point?
A 23 CFL is still very bright. I have three floor lamps in a living room space with no ceiling lamp. I can see computer text very clearly.
Yeah, but they don’t “dim” like the incandescent bulb, and they hum loudly when you dim them.
I don't even need to see the assumptions to know that this is an uber lie.
Regarding CFLs, I don't know why people are so slow to accept them. I mean, who doesn't want a mercury-filled glowing tube that has such an irritating wavelength that it gives eyestrain, headaches, and makes everyone look like Frankenstein?
.
Like I said... if you need CFL... get GE Reveal neodymium bulbs. At least the color is like daylight.
Yeah, they aren’t really an exact substitute.
