National Journal has obtained a draft of the president's address from a Democratic insider who declined to be identified because the source would be violating the White House's embargo.
In the speech draft, Obama declared that the global economy poses new challenges for America. "The rules have changed," the president says. Declaring "we do big things...That's how we win the future," Obama extolled bipartisanship, compromise and American exceptionalism while offering an agenda aimed at restoring the nation's economic competitiveness.
Among the proposals Obama offered was tax simplification, eliminating taxpayer subsidies for oil companies and extending wireless coverage to 98 percent of Americans. Touting unity to a diverse nation, Obama said: "We may have different backgrounds, but we believe in the same dream that says this is a country where anythings possible. No matter who you are. No matter where you come from."
Here is the text of the speech draft obtained by National Journal:
Tonight I want to begin by congratulating the men and women of the 112th Congress, as well as your new Speaker, John Boehner. And as we mark this occasion, we are also mindful of the empty chair in this Chamber, and pray for the health of our colleague and our friend Gabby Giffords.
Its no secret that those of us here tonight have had our differences over the last two years. The debates have been contentious; we have fought fiercely for our beliefs. And thats a good thing. Thats what a robust democracy demands. Thats what helps set us apart as a nation...

The era of big fascist government has just begun
and you are married to it, like it or not
So buying cell phones and cell service for loser’s is Obama’s big world competitiveness initiative? How about cutting the US corporate tax rate, the 2nd highest in the industrialized world, from 35% to something closer to the industrialized world average of 22%?
“America is exception[ally conciliatory]”?
“extending wireless coverage to 98 percent of Americans.”
Oooh, that bold! I think I’m getting a tingle up my leg.
I think I heard it all before
Are they gonna pass out t-shirts?
98% of all Americans already have access to wireless coverage. It's called cell phones with a data plan.
Hmmm... vomit now or vomit later...
Can’t read it. Can’t watch it.
No..the rules haven’t changed. The constitution is still the rule of law and we will jam it down your teleprompter if we have to.
“we do big things...(killing America)....
That’s how we win the future (as Marxists looters)”
Unfortunately for this idiot, governing is less about big things and more of an endless continum of small minor things shaped and directed by forces of clear and concise policy.
He thinks you sail a boat with radical big corrections. Navigating with hand grenades I'd call it.
“extending wireless coverage to 98 percent of Americans.”
Wasn’t he peddling the exact same thing in his inaugural speech?
The list, ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
All you have to do is be part of the government plan....Read the fine print...”We can tap this anytime we want. If you say the N word or “Target”, we will arrest you. If you say....white...m....it’s okay if you are black
Bow before Soros!
My grandmother always said, “Small minds make big plans and blame others when they fail. Big minds make small plans and never stop sustaining them.”
