It's bad enough that Rep. Paul Ryan has to follow President Obama. Now the brainy Wisconsin congressman tapped to give the official Republican response to the State of the Union address must also compete for attention with Tea Party star Michele Bachmann.
Bachmann, a third-term Minnesota congresswoman renowned for lobbing rhetorical bombs at her opponents, plans to rebut the president's address in an online broadcast at the Tea Party Express website Tuesday night.
While Ryan's remarks will be carried by all the networks and cable news outlets as they happen, television news outlets have agreed to share a camera to record Bachmann's comments -- and some could choose to air them live.

Bachmann seems to be getting in some folks’ space lately. Ryan probably doesn’t deserve this distraction. And if she plans to run, that would clearly take votes away from Palin.
Paul Ryan is extraordinarily articulate. I think he will do just fine.
“Brainy”?
Like brainy Smurf?
It all depends on whose words he is using.
The question is.......will someone shout out YOU CRY! to John Boehner?
GOP rebuttal could scramble the message on behalf of the American people from.the Tea Party.
MUCH better.
I think it sends a clear message.
Ignore the Tea Party to your doom... I am darned glad Bachman is doing this. The GOP needs a constant prod in the buttocks with regard to what they do in D.C. That is supposed to be OUR will, not theirs.
GO MICHELLE! Rip the Dims a new one, and keep the GOP in line!
Listen, the tea party put Paul Ryan and the rest of the republican congress in office. Of course they should have a response to the party line responses! Sorry, old guard, but there is a new dog in town now!
There you go! You got it right!
One thing I do disagree with Ms Bachmann on, there is a “schism” between the teaparty and the GOP. At least the old line Blue Blood GOP
Ryan isn't squishy. He deserves to have the focus on him. Bachmann's move seems a little self-serving to me, but hey, that's politics for ya.
And anyway, here I thought the tea party was a leaderless grass roots movement. Bachmann doesn't speak for the tea party. She's just another elected Republican.
Since FOX and others have decided not to show Michelle how can anything get ‘scrambled’?
Hmm, with talk of a run coming they’re going after Michelle more now. They’d be spoilt for choice if both she and Sarah run, on which to demonize more.
Give ‘em hell Michelle!
Why does Fox care? I understand they are ignoring Bachmann.
She won’t be making her statement until after Paul Ryan makes his rebuttal. I see no problem with that. You know all the TV pundits will be analyzing the speech so she will just be one among many others.
Agreed. This article and the way Bachmann was dissed in it made me think I was reading an ABC or huffy article. WTF?

What is that supposed to mean. Ryan's job is going to be a cake walk.
Intro: We all heard the President speak tonight about the need for fiscal changes, but these are the same things we heard in 2010 and 2009. [Reference quotes from those SOTU] The President talks about fiscal reform, the Republicans are going to act on fiscal reform.
Then give 5 minutes on cuts, 5 minutes on fixing healthcare reform, and 5 minutes on "good fiscal policy and removing the threat of bad healthcare reform equals job growth in the economy.
Three times the content in in third the time as the President. Don't mince words.
