Hello Dan, There are some things we should all be able to agree on - and one of them is that rights always come with responsibilities, and that the mentally unstable shouldn't be able to buy guns.
Anyone that wants to purchase a gun in this country should be required to pass a simple background check. However, our patchwork of gun laws is rife with loopholes and too many dangerous people fall through the cracks. The result is that powerful weapons still end up in the hands of dangerous, unstable people. A coalition of our nations mayors is pushing to fix the system. Mayors know the problem better than anyone - they have to deal with gun violence on our streets every day. So my friend Tom Menino, the mayor of Boston, and Michael Bloomberg, the mayor of New York, joined forces with 550 other mayors in our country to form Mayors Against Illegal Guns. They have a comprehensive plan to keep illegal guns off of our streets and fix our broken background system.
Today, at an event with Martin Luther King III and 34 victims of gun violence, they will be unveiling their common-sense plan to close the loopholes. They need you to add your voice to theirs to make sure the folks in Washington know that you are demanding that we have a real system that keeps guns out of the hands of unstable people.
Please click here and join with them in demanding we do what common sense says we can do to make sure the next Jared Loughner wont be able to buy guns.
Look, this isnt about taking guns away from anyone who wants to buy them legally. Its simply a plan to fix the system we have so that it respects the rights of stable, law abiding citizens but keeps guns out of the hands of those who shouldnt have them.
Previous tragedies, from the Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King assassination in the 60s, to the mass shootings on the Long Island Railroad in the early 90s, have pushed our nation to look deeply at gun violence -- to update laws with common sense -- and we owe it to ourselves to do the same now.
So please click here to join our nations mayors in demanding common sense action.
Thank you for all you do. Sincerely, John Kerry

Kerry, Menino, Bloomberg and 550 other mayors are still at it! It's all just reasonable common sense to keep guns out of the hands of anybody Kerry says- um, I mean, those who should not have them.
I got this as email, the URL goes to Kerry's campaign site, and I could not find this inspiring message there, sorry if there is confusion.

It seems to be the states who want more gun control who are failing to keep the records current. They want the background check program to fail!

This is funny. Kerry shoots himself in the ass with this very statement.
Hey John, if you keep drafting BS laws in response to every "tragedy", maybe you should STOP DRAFTING LAWS!!!!!

Way I understand it had the simpleton Sheriff in Pima County arrested Loughner for 1 of his multiple death threats and offenses NICS would have flagged him. We have laws, liberals like Kerry just refuse to let criminals be treated as criminals until something horrendous happens...then they blame the tool not the fool.

Step One: Legislate that no mentally ill person may own a gun.
Step Two: Declare all enemies of the regime “mentally ill.”

John Kerry has his trigger finger directly on the trigger,...and...it also appears that he is not looking at the target.
So?...Am I correct?
One of the most important gun safety rules is that a person does NOT NOT NOT touch the trigger until the person is immediately ready to FIRE the weapon!
John F. Kerry? Was he **really** a Vietnam veteran?

Look, this isnt about taking guns away from anyone who wants to buy them legally. A clever ruse. The business end of the plan to disarm folks is to make them all guilty of some crime that would allow the state to confiscate their weapons, and make it impossible to get new ones, And ammo.

He can even start off with the wrong premise (Kennedy and King assassinations resulted in common sense changes to gun laws) and STILL end up with the right conclusion (we need to apply common sense to gun laws today). Go figure.
Course if we asked him if common sense updates to our guns laws would consist of repealing 99.99% of them including the NFA and 68 GCA, I guarantee you he'd fail that one.

Yup, so that about 1% will be able to get guns legally. UK, and I think Australia is like that, some firearms are available, but to a limited few.
You can bet that Kerry’s skeet gun won’t be on the list of banned guns.

I opened carried my 1911 for the first time a few weeks ago. Within 5 mins a cop stopped me but just to look at my WWII vintage 1911, the gun my dad carried, and moved on. He seemed pretty cool. This is in CA.
