Jack LaLanne, the fitness guru who inspired television viewers to trim down, eat well and pump iron for decades before diet and exercise became a national obsession, died on Sunday. He was 96.
Just goes to show, that even if you work out every day and eat well, you can still be taken from this life at the tender age of 96.
The guy influenced millions of people to improve their lives. God bless him.
Shot by a jealous husband.
The real life Energizer Bunny.
RIP
Jack LaLanne was cool... he really was. I couldn’t listen to him without smiling. The man knew how to live with zest and gusto and enthusiasm. I bet he wasted very little of his 96 years on this earth. Such a POSITIVE outlook.... such be a lesson for us all. Yes, deal with the problems and the ‘bad’ stuff... but never forget to spend time focusing on the positive and good as well.
“...whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things..” Phil 4:8.
I don’t know much about the man he was, other than what I saw on television.... But you can’t consistently fake happiness, and that man was happy. I KNOW that his focus had to be on the positive... more than the negative.. result? A long and happy life, and folks like me looking at the overall picture that was Jack LaLanne’s life, and smiling fondly. How accurate am I? Not a clue, but I know the man will be remembered kindly by most, if not all who knew him. A life well lived.

RIP Jack. You were an inspiration for millions.
Jack LaLanne was the only guy whose ass Chuck Norris could not kick.
Jack was an inspiration for countless people. No drugs, nothing fancy.. just steady consistent work. God Bless and RIP, Jack.
Well that just proved THAT! Yup, it’s official. We are all going to die. RIP, Jack.
Which is a lot better than doing so at the tender age of 76, which is what happens for most men (if they make it that long).
My dad died from drinking.
He was 96
Got hit by a bus coming out of a pub

Back about 1969, I read an article about CHARLES ATLAS, his routine and diet, a very healthy diet!
Three years later he died at 80 years of age.
My great-grandfather died at 89 and my grand uncle died at 88. Both were poster boys for poor living, smoked like a chimney and drank like fish.
Oh, crap.
I was one of those eight year olds who drug their mom to the TV for a couple of reps with Jack. She’d do one or two, and then say she was too busy to watch the show, and leave.
I’d watch the whole thing, his personality was magnetic, and I even enjoyed his singing at the end of his show. Once in a great while I’d even exercise with him.
Those ballet slippers struck me as a bit on the feminine side, but his physique more than made up for them.
RIP, Jack. You were my hero in 1961, and you always will be.
I spent a couple of days a few years back trying to learn all his dietary/supplement secrets...the only one that was right out there solidly in print (other than raw juicing) at that time, relative to diet, was that he hadn’t eaten any dessert (I read that to be refined sugar) since 1929, and I remember reading or hearing that he was super-sick (unto death) as a teenager as a direct result of the sugar-rich diet he ate up until he discovered healthy nutrition and working out. I guess Paul Bragg (of Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar, etc.) was an initial influence on him. By hearsay from someone I knew who grew up in Alameda during the ‘20s-’30s, he would hang out at the beach there with other “muscle types.” I think the “ballet slippers” were a flexible and lightweight covering for his feet for TV shows. I guess he had a heart valve operation in 2009. Quite the guy and the health community owes so much to him. I’ve been wondering about him lately and how he might be doing. I will miss him.
