Posted on 01/23/2011 7:39:40 PM PST by Kartographer

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) procures and stores pre-packaged commercial meals to support readiness capability for immediate distribution to disaster survivors routinely. The purpose of this Request for Information is to identify sources of supply for meals in support of disaster relief efforts based on a catastrophic disaster event within the New Madrid Fault System for a survivor population of 7M to be utilized for the sustainment of life during a 10-day period of operations.

The gov is requesting bids on 210 million liters of water

Now they want gas? Yep. Government’s got a presolicitation notice out for 24-thousand gallons of gasoline and 135,000 gallons of diesel in each state for NC, SC, GA, FL, AL, MS, TX, and LA. That’s 1.272 million gallons they’re wondering about; how much to commit to 24-hour delivery in each state.

Gulf and lower Atlantic states for fuel and other items. I suppose they’re expecting another Katrina.

If you think about it - if there were an event on the New Madrid fault line, that is not where you would need the gasoline - you would need it in the surrounding states because supply lines will be interrupted.

They really are preparing, aren’t they.

The problem I see is getting it into the hands of the people who need it the most. It would need to be kept under armed guard and who knows if the government will be functional enough to organize distribution properly.

There will be lots of payoffs and hoarding going on. I do not have any doubts that it will not be distributed equitably.

I also think there will be rationing based on medical need. Those most likely to die will probably least likely get the stuff and have it *wasted* on them.

If the gas is for quake preparedness, why aren’t Tennessee, Kansas, Arkansas included?

By the way, have you noticed how the tremors have slowed down recently?

I watch differences in the patterns...

“If the gas is for quake preparedness, why aren’t Tennessee, Kansas, Arkansas included?”

Two points:
1. If a large quake hits an area there will be gas lines that will rupture (think explosions), water lines too. I don’t think you would store gasoline in the area. One other thing - think about all the CFL “curly fry” light bulbs with mercury on the shelves at the Home Depot and Lowe’s stores. There are many dangers other than the quake itself.

2. If they are purchasing millions of blankets and prepackaged meals etc. you can be quite certain it is not for survivors.

It is for them or for the military. They couldn’t even get water to the people after Katrina. The supplies are likely for soldiers involved in maintaining martial law because of the unrest and looting.

...you can be quite certain it is not for survivors.

It is for them or for the military.

In that case, why aren't they just buying more MREs?

And don't soldiers already have plenty of sleeping bags?

The gov is requesting bids on 210 million liters of water

The way I read the RFI, FEMA is requesting 210 million liters of water per day for 10 days, which comes to 2.1 BILLION liters of water.

.....The purpose of this Request for Information is to identify sources of supply for hydration in support of disaster relief efforts based on a catastrophic disaster event within the New Madrid Fault System for a survivor population of 7M to be utilized for the sustainment of life during a 10-day period of operations. FEMA is considering the following specifications (210M liters per day).......

No matter how you cut it, I DON’T trust the government.

Those supplies will make it into the hands of those they want to get it and there is no guarantee that you or I or anyone we know will fall into that category.

That’s why we as individuals, need to be prepared.

I gotta go get one of those rocket stoves now that I think of it. Someone had a link up for them on FR once and I’m sure I saved it somewhere on my computer...
