Dozens of lawmakers are getting a second dose of high school as they venture across the aisle and ask colleagues to sit with them for President Obamas State of the Union address next week.
<----> snip <---->
The bipartisan gesture carries a serious tone for nearly all who have pledged to do away with the typical seating arrangement, which is not assigned but generally gets divided by party. But the humor of asking one of their fellow lawmakers to attend the event as their date has not escaped members.

Is John McCain one of these simple sisters? Seems like his style.
#61
According to the article, he was going to do it but didn’t have a seat buddy yet.
Look, Boehner got rolled on this one as he has on other issues. He is not the type leader we need, period. He denied any leadership positions to Tea Party supported candidates too, relying on the seniority appointments which gave RINOs priority.
I fear this country is going down so fast, this is just window dressing symbolically like let them eat cake.
(.)bama will call for new spending in his SOU, more debt, pound on the civility issue because no where will he utter:
the state of the union is in desparate straights, states are set to default, the dollar is in shambles, the dollar will cease being the world reserve currency soon, our military has been hollowed out, our budget is hopefully unbalanced and I am not even a citizen.
This way John McCain doesn’t have to reach across the aisle. He just sits across the aisle with Democrats. This BS was tailor made for McCain
Most of them probably need a first dose of high school. Particularly in history.
Not from WI but I am a Paul Ryan fan. We need so many more in Congress just like him.
Gimmick and the Republican’s are falling for it or maybe it’s just the RINO’s and the rest don’t have a choice.
Either Republicans as a whole are truly dumb as a box of rocks, or they do understand why the Dems want this seating and they're too scared to stand up to them--and too inarticulate to stand up to the media. Either way, it's depressing beyond belief.
Now we will find out who are the real conservatives and who are the RINOs.
Absolutely!
The great conservative majority, will allow the progressives to water them down.................all in a show of good faith.
Some scream that we need a third party, hell we need a second party and this stunt proves it.
Do they not remember when the Campbells and McDonalds sat down for a meal together and the Campbells treacherously pulled knives and stabbed their hosts?
Also, might this not get the SOTU over with faster, as the Dims will not be in one big block to do multiple standing ovations?
And the McDonalds haven't served the Campbell's soup at their restaurants since.
“Somebody is going to get stuck with Barney Frank as their seat buddy.
Stuck? Na, there are rinos fighting over that one.
I think it would be a real act of bipartisanship for Senator DeMint to sit with Senator Graham.
Both of you have it right. Nothing more than a stunt and Boehner and McConnell caved to this in the name of civility. You know damn well if Dims gain the house again they will provide a show of strength by keeping the sides separated. The appearance of power is as important as the actual power and the Republicans are about to give away some of their newly won power.
This is so stupid...
The idea behind this nonsense is to see which Republicans are too cowardly to remain seated when, every 15 seconds or so, the rats in the chamber bounce to their feet to applaud some throwaway line from Ubama. The Democrat newsrooms are going to have plenty of camera fun with this silly gimmick.
Of course, we too will see which Republicans are the cowards.
The rats have absolutely nothing to lose from this game.
That would be Mark Kirk.
“And the jackass republicans are going to fall for that farce?”
I think you have pretty much summed it up. This is the biggest bunch of horse hockey I have ever seen. Of all the times when the GOP should be showing solidarity this is definitely the time. They are a bunch of bumbling fools and we are just sick of it. I don’t know if we are even going to watch the STOTU.
