Holly Lahti burst into the spotlight a week ago in a feel-good story about a single mother who won a $190 million Mega Millions jackpot.
Then came the mugshot: a thin young woman with disheveled brown hair, sporting a black eye and cuts and bruises on her face and neck. It turned out she was separated from a man who court records indicated had abused her, and now has a possible claim to some of the money through a quirk in Idaho law.

“That’s awesome! I won’t have to pay child support!”
...what makes the loafer think that?
Pay him off, get rid of him, and leave the area, that would be my advice.
She can have the other $95M and not have to worry about him. It ought to be enough.
Now, if he gets $95M and somehow comes around and acts like he is entitled to more, I'd shoot the bastard.
The articles seems to suggest it was her mugshot.
“Idaho’s murky law on the issue requires a divorce filing to grant separation, which is a key factor in splitting up assets between spouses.”
What’s murky about this? It works both ways. It sure sucks in this case, but the law is the law
That sux, but still $95 million is the best deal she will ever get in this lifetime.
Hopefully he abusive POS ex will do what most lowlifes do when given a large amount of cash, have a good time for a few years then end up losing it all.
I hope this woman is smart enough to know she is isn’t smart enough to handle this kind of windfall and talks to a good investment consultant.
Awwwwwww, I think she’s charming and cute...but, of course, in a banged-up, disheveled and undernourished sort of way.
Not quite.
“Holly Lahti can still file for divorce, and contend the winnings are all hers because the couple do not live together and do not support each other, Brandt said. A divorce does not automatically produce a 50-50 split of assets.”
And this happened in 2003? The mutual domestic dispute. Ah, he’s been arrested for drug stuff he’ll likely OD with whatever money he gets. Give him some and be free woman.
A reality show waiting to happen.
I would offer him no more than about 8 or 10 million.
Remember, if you take the net present value of your winnings, it is only about 62%, and you pay 35% federal tax. and 4.9% Idaho income tax.
Since his claim is doubtful, and he is not the sharpest knife, he would probably take it.
She’s got enough money now to put some real fat in those lips...They look a little deflated from the past lip pump.
Both were arrested in 2003 for domestics on each other. Both charges dismissed. According to article the dad sees the kids quite a bit. So on its face the split up after the episode, they went their separate ways and the dad is at least somewhat involved with the kids.
Now I’m not giving this guy any pass on anythings he’s done, but as a child support payer(which I do without fail and have no complaints about doing) that would be my first reaction as well. Differance is I wouldn’t say that to a reporter under any circumstances
Holly Lahti was arrested and charged with battery in 2003 in Kootenai County, but the prosecutor eventually dismissed the charges. Her husband was arrested on the same charge the same day, and those charges were also dismissed.
Hmmmm, the press can find out all of this info in a couple of weeks but when it comes to the bamster......zilch, zip, nada.
I would add: buy a gun or 5 (if she is legally able to do so).
I agree, there is a lot of money to go around but even a credit card will you accountable for debt before the divorce.
Both of those two just have the look of people who have been abusing opiates.
To each his own. If she only gets half, she gets $95M. What the heck is some poor soul going to do with $95M????? Now, I’m sure she could swing a deal where she could get more than half, and wind up with something north of $100M. But I’m not sure I see the point.
Exactly!!! Get rid of the loser.
