Spotlight From Glenn Beck Brings a CUNY Professor (Frances Fox Piven) Threats
New York Times ^ | January 21, 2011 | BRIAN STELTER

Posted on 01/22/2011 5:38:16 AM PST by reaganaut1

On his daily radio and television shows, Glenn Beck has elevated once-obscure conservative thinkers onto best-seller lists. Recently, he has elevated a 78-year-old liberal academic to celebrity of a different sort, in a way that some say is endangering her life.

Frances Fox Piven, a City University of New York professor, has been a primary character in Mr. Beck’s warnings about a progressive take-down of America. Ms. Piven, Mr. Beck says, is responsible for a plan to “intentionally collapse our economic system.”

Her name has become a kind of shorthand for “enemy” on Mr. Beck’s Fox News Channel program, which is watched by more than 2 million people, and on one of his Web sites, The Blaze. This week, Mr. Beck suggested on television that she was an enemy of the Constitution.

Never mind that Ms. Piven’s radical plan to help poor people was published 45 years ago, when Mr. Beck was a toddler. Anonymous visitors to his Web site have called for her death, and some, she said, have contacted her directly via e-mail.

In response, a liberal nonprofit group, the Center for Constitutional Rights, wrote to the chairman of Fox News, Roger Ailes, on Thursday to ask him to put a stop to Mr. Beck’s “false accusations” about Ms. Piven.

“Mr. Beck is putting Professor Piven in actual physical danger of a violent response,” the group wrote.

Fox News disagrees. Joel Cheatwood, a senior vice president, said Friday that Mr. Beck would not be ordered to stop talking about Ms. Piven on television. He said Mr. Beck had quoted her accurately and had never threatened her.

“ ‘The Glenn Beck Program,’ probably above and beyond any on television, has denounced violence repeatedly,” Mr. Cheatwood said.

What "false accusations?"

The Cloward-Piven "Plan" is on the rcord for all to read for themselves.

If anyone is so incompetent (including the New York Times) as to be unable to find a copy of it, I'll provide a link to it.

It's in plain English. I haven't searched, but there may even be an ebonics copy of it.

Comiing from the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) the charge is FARSICAL. Check their website [LINK] and you'll find that CCR's work seems to revolve around supporting one terrorist after another.

They are even involved in supporting (by lawsuits) the Al-Qaeda leader Anwar al-Awlaki who has orchestrated numerous recent attacks in the U.S. including the Christmas Underwear Bomb attack [nytimes.com] and has publicly called for the killing of Americans. A Google search on "anwar al-Awlaki" "calls for killing" returns 74,100 results.

Anwar al-Awlaki - a
face from the headlines

And if that is not enough, here's a little on CCR’s history from FrontPageMag.com:

The CCR was founded in 1966 by Arthur Kinoy and William Kunstler Kinroy has a long history as an activist with known Communist-front groups such as the International Workers Order and the United Electrical Workers, a union expelled from the CIO because of it Communist leadership. William M. Kunstler is best known as the chief defendants' counsel at the trial of the “Chicago 8" who organized of the violent "peace" demonstrations as the 1968 Democratic Convention. He was cited for contempt of court for his disruptive tactics. Kunstler also defended the “Catonsville 9" a group of antiwar protesters led by Daniel and Philip Berrigan who broke into government offices to destroy local draft records.

David Cole: Lawyer For Terror

( Kunstler also distinguished himself after the full scope of the Communist Cambodian Genocide was revealed and he was asked for a statement. He said, “I do not believe in public attacks on socialist countries.” )

Note also that David Cole is a CCR board member and is still listed on CCR's website as such [LINK]. I'm sure the other members CCR lists are not much different.

As the following 2 CCR press releases concerning GITMO detainees show, their devotion to the cause is such that they'll slam you if you detain them or you return them to their country[LINK]:

"Rights Groups Mark Beginning of a Decade of Wrongful Detentions at Guantánamo and Demand Obama Close Island Prison with Justice"

{Algerian }"Man Repatriated from Guantánamo to Algeria Against His Will"

Not surprisingly CCR has been funded by the "Tides Center" which is supported by the "Open Society Institute" that received some $2 BILLION from George Soros [forbes.com].

“A nation can survive its fools and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and he carries his banners openly against the city. But the traitor moves among those within the gates freely. His sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears no traitor; he speaks in the accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their garments and he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men.” Cicero, speech to the Roman Senate

“Far lefties, on the other hand, know full well what they are doing and use these idiots to advance their destroy America agenda.”

She IS the far left; no one is using her. She’s using what resources are available to her, cabals of leftists throughout academia, the media, churches, and legal circles that work together on their anti-America agenda. Don’t think for one minute that Pivens is being used. She’s a user and destroyer.

I didn't think for a nano-second that *Pivens* was being used, or that she isn't far left. I was referring to the general (dopey) liberal mentality. Pivens is definitely on the destroy America left.

Never mind that very recent and very divisive statements by her were made when Mr. Beck was a fully grown man.

You would think that Brian would know better than to try something as feeble as that, so stop thinking.

Correct.
Ms Fox-Piven has been swimming in the sewers of Rad Leftist endoctrination for decades.

Now that someone has opened the man-hole and let the light in, as ususal the RATS run for cover.

Maybe she can pay for SECURITY like Glenn Beck does for his family. Pretty sad that someone can’t even take his fam to a show without security.
Welcome to the party Frannie.

There really is no "Beck says" about it, is there?

Otherwise I hold pretty firm to the words of Thomas Jefferson.

And I to Thomas Paine's creed as stated in Chapter One of his 'The Age of Reason'

"As several of my colleagues and others of my fellow-citizens of France have given me the example of making their voluntary and individual profession of faith, I also will make mine; and I do this with all that sincerity and frankness with which the mind of man communicates with itself.

I believe in one God, and no more; and I hope for happiness beyond this life.

I believe in the equality of man; and I believe that religious duties consist in doing justice, loving mercy, and endeavoring to make our fellow-creatures happy.

But, lest it should be supposed that I believe in many other things in addition to these, I shall, in the progress of this work, declare the things I do not believe, and my reasons for not believing them.

I do not believe in the creed professed by the Jewish church, by the Roman church, by the Greek church, by the Turkish church, by the Protestant church, nor by any church that I know of. My own mind is my own church.

All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions, set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit.

I do not mean by this declaration to condemn those who believe otherwise; they have the same right to their belief as I have to mine. But it is necessary to the happiness of man, that he be mentally faithful to himself. Infidelity does not consist in believing, or in disbelieving; it consists in professing to believe what he does not believe.

It is impossible to calculate the moral mischief, if I may so express it, that mental lying has produced in society. When a man has so far corrupted and prostituted the chastity of his mind, as to subscribe his professional belief to things he does not believe, he has prepared himself for the commission of every other crime. He takes up the trade of a priest for the sake of gain, and in order to qualify himself for that trade, he begins with a perjury. Can we conceive any thing more destructive to morality than this?

Soon after I had published the pamphlet Common Sense, in America, I saw the exceeding probability that a revolution in the system of government would be followed by a revolution in the system of religion. The adulterous connection of church and state, wherever it had taken place, whether Jewish, Christian, or Turkish, had so effectually prohibited by pains and penalties, every discussion upon established creeds, and upon first principles of religion, that until the system of government should be changed, those subjects could not be brought fairly and openly before the world; but that whenever this should be done, a revolution in the system of religion would follow. Human inventions and priestcraft would be detected; and man would return to the pure, unmixed and unadulterated belief of one God, and no more."

I have noticed that a few mormon dislikers (won’t use a stronger word, wouldn’t want to offend) cannot keep it out of even news about this jacka$$ marxist teaching in our colleges.. they should give it a rest and post on the Mormons aren’t christian threads...geeze, give it a break.

Couldn't agree more...that would like ignoring all of Hannity's information about Reverend Wright and Barack Obama because Sean is Catholic (rolls eyes)...

At any rate, belief in the “White Horse Prophecy” is not universal among them and is not LDS dogma.

I'm not so sure of that. When both Hatch and Beck publicly hold to the WH prophecy either openly or covertly, that should tell you something. In my own experience this "saving the Constitution when it is hanging by a thread" belief IS pretty universal among mormons, but like a lot of mormon beliefs non-mormons will hear a lot of "Oh, we don't believe THAT". There are quite a few "not for public consumption and I'll deny I ever said that" beliefs among the "saints".

In related belief, from the official LDS website on the post-millennium:

People on the Earth during the Millennium

Beck showed this on his show at the beginning of January when she came back into the news.

I would be led to believe that Dohrn, Ayers and Obama were her prodigies and attended her lectures and social gatherings.

Just yesturday I turned on Beck and promptly turned him off. He was in his preaching mode and a total turn off to me. He has lost me as a listener because more and more he sounds like a preacher pushing the Mormon agenda...masked as it often is ,to those who are unfamiliar with Mormonism, he none the less is pushing it now.

Please have Ms. Piven call 1 - 800 - WAAAAAH. She had better be more worried that another nutcase from the left doesn't do her in because she is not doing more to advance the anarchist/Marxist/socialist agenda.
