Gregory Defends Obama's Anti-Business Record: W Made Him Do It
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Is David Gregory trying to raise his profile by becoming more overtly partisan? Gregory struck what at one point seemed to me a hostile tone in his questioning of conservative Sen. Tom Coburn on last week's Meet The Press. Then, on today's Morning Joe, Gregory went out of his way to defend Pres. Obama's history of being less-than-friendly to business. And the MTP host did it in a way that will warm White House hearts: by blaming George W. Bush.

The subject at hand was PBO's naming of GE CEO Jeffrey Immelt to replace Paul Volcker as a key economic advisor. The panel, and Chuck Todd in particular, were making the point that it signaled a significant shift from Obama's previous preference for academic types, to people with their feet on the economic ground. There was general consensus that PBO had earned the business community's suspicion, and that the president was now reaching to reassure them.

That's when Gregory launched a defense that could just as easily have come from Robert Gibbs. View video after the jump.

I've spoken to Leftists who defend Obama's unprecedented trillion dollar deficits on the basis that Bush caused economic chaos by spending too much -- and now Obama has to fix that problem by doing whatever it takes.

Uh huh.

It's all Bush's fault. All of it.

David Gregory's wife is the lawyer for FannieMae/FredMac.

He would NEVER let that bias him, right?

Everyone from the Today Show to Meet the Press to the misfits on MSNBC have gone out of their way to prop up dear leader. As a result, NBC’s leader just got billions in lucrative deals with China and a post in the administration. If anything needs to be investigated, it’s the obama/GE/NBC relationship.

I was trying to square this circle last night.

After two years of Obama destroying the economy, with stagnant unemployment, out of control debt, and rising gas (and food) prices, it is somehow Palin who is becoming less popular... and Obama who is becoming more popular.

Imagine for a second a Repub prez presiding over this economic mess and him/her somehow becoming more popular. All while his liberal (out of power) rival becomes less popular.

Would never happen. The liberal media is still very very powerful.

David Gregory is a partisan punk. He has tried to tone it down since he became host of “Meet the Press”, but its only a matter of time till he reverts to form.

“Spend more money to get out of debt”...these people weren’t raised right.

Blaming Bush is about as effective as blaming George Washington (don’t laugh, it might happen).

They seriously need a new strategy.

Gregory will never forgive Bush for that time when Bush needled him for speaking French at a press conference. Dude needs to get over himself.

I forgot that was Gregory. Great point—or “tres bien dit,” as we like to say ;-)

"David Gregory's wife is the lawyer for FannieMae/FredMac. He would NEVER let that bias him, right?"

Beth Wilkinson was also the lead attorney who prosecuted Timothy McVeigh. From Wikepedia:

In 2006, Fannie Mae recruited Wilkinson as parts of its effort to rebuild its relationship with regulators after accounting scandals and complaints about its corporate culture. Her compensation at Fannie Mae was not disclosed when she was hired.[6]

She served as Fannie Mae's executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary from February 2006 until September 2008.[7]

She resigned her position at Fannie Mae along with three other senior executives on September 19, 2008, after the troubled mortgage giant was taken over by the government.[8]

So David Gregory and his wife walked away with untold millions of taxpayer funds. Is there any way to find out how much money Gregory's wife looted from us?
