The layoffs have begun at the Electrolux plant here as the plant begins the process of closing down by this spring.
United Autoworkers Local 442 Vice President Jerry Kloberdanz said the company posted the first stage of layoffs Jan. 7.
Kloberdanz said there are about 500 people working at the plant.
Electrolux, which makes washing machines and dryers, announced in 2009 that it would close the Webster City plant by the end of March.

You somehow forgot to mention the jobs are being OUTSOURCED.
To Mexico.
This is not about unions. It is about globalism, and “free trade”.
Traitors.

The Messenger in Fort Dodge reported that the company began building a presence in Mexico several years ago in anticipation of moving production there.
What was left that was not made in China will now be made in Mexico or Canada.

That’s correct. If you listen to certain people, it means that these jobs don’t matter. Nor the plant itself.

So you support unions?
Unions make it too difficult and expensive to run a business profitably.
Govt regulations and unions push jobs overseas.

"You somehow forgot to mention the jobs are being OUTSOURCED. To Mexico. This is not about unions."
The unions are what made the labor costs so high that the company had no option but to outsource or perish.

Come on, CNN, don’t you know putting Americans out of work is down right patriotic?

jobs are outsourced because it cost too much locally. This is not the business’s fault, but the law/regulation/taxes of the country. Businesses move to Mexico because they’re obviously more friendly to business than America

You somehow forgot to mention the jobs are being OUTSOURCED.Why do you think the jobs are being outsourced??? Union involvement is a major reason why.

It pretty much says so in the article, right after where the excerpted portion ends.

Fwiw, last month
Electrolux announced it was building a plant in Memphis, Tennessee. Go figure. I wonder if this new plant will use union labor?

Jobs are outsourced because nobody is doing anything to stop it.
Meanwhile, China is protectionist and rapidly taking everything we and our ancestors worked to build and leave in our hands.
“Free trade” = treason.
To: Cringing Negativism Network
The jobs aren’t being outsourced, they are being OUTFORCED.

Not only do unions push jobs away, a protectionist policy play favourites. This is anti-capitalism, but fascism. Ppl cry about bailing out companies like Goldman Sach, well, thats exactly what you’re advocating. Reward the rich ppl with unfair gains while punishing ordinary Americans with high prices

A Swedish company with plants all over the world. Calling it “globalist” is stating the obvious.
