I went to Haleakala for a sunrise in July and it was freezing.

My DIL is from Hawaii and told me about the snow.

Sure surprised me.

My nephew is a park ranger there - he was stranded for awhile last week(?) by flooding.

Snow on the ground in 49 of the 50 states!

Yes, it was all but Florida then.

49 states have snow, with Florida the only holdout

We've had snow on Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa for several weeks.

I am assuming there are no lifts.

Yes, it snows in Hawaii.

I’ve heard that. I think it’s called Winter.

Yes, some ski and snowboard on Mauna Kea from time to time. It’s not really a good idea though since only a few inches of snow are all that’s atop a lava field. Spills are particularly nasty.

At the pass, 5,550 ft it was up to 65°F today.
http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/current/KGDP.html

I had found an interactive map that would let you select an area by map to get an estimated forecast based upon elevation in the park but I cannot find it again. Frustrating since I was just looking at it and I cannot remember my combination of search terms used to find it.

I found at 7,777 ft it expected 56°F today for a high but I couldn't zero in any tighter to get the upper peak specifically.

They get snow, and expect some flurries tonight. But there isn't likely any cover at all today.

Ha, I was just there last week... it had snow on it then, I could not believe it... it gets down in the 30’s and 20’s overnight on top, I would not have guessed.

If there were mountains in Florida we’d be at fifty. I guess a hard frost on the orange crop doesn’t count.
