BREMERTON, Wash. (AP) - The aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan is scheduled for work at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in January 2012.
The Kitsap Sun says it will undergo maintenance similar to the yearlong $250 million job the shipyard began in December on the aircraft carrier Nimitz.

Most “Naval Shipyards” that I have seem are PRETTY crappy!
What stands out in that photo is the absence of any personal flotation device. That’s a nice fine from the Coasties.
carter got a submarine, which perfectly mirrors his presidency:
You do know that Carter was in the Submarine Officer community when he was in. The least you can do is thank him for his service. His Presidency and after has been dreadful but his service in the Navy was ok.
Clinton is next. If you notice they went Carter, Ford, Reagan, Bush I....do you think in these times they will skip over someone? Actually the USS Gerald FORD will be CVN-78. Weird how they went out of order.

Let’s just call it a happy coincidence.
Have been on her twice; once for the commissioning, and once for a family day cruise. The day cruise included an air show. Awesome. Stood on deck as jets landed and took off.
These are nonstriking Federal employees. Unlike the private Todd Shipyard across the sound, that is full of Union scum, PSNSY has never had a strike by their workers.
My Dad retired from Bremerton and my brother is in his 28th year.
Probably converting it to ethanol.
Not really. Which party was controlling the White House and/or Congress when funding for these ships was authorized?
Excellent news
It's not at all unusual to spend a year in the yards after nine years in commission. There is new equipment to install, upgraded to do, things to overhaul, bottom to clean, and so forth.
How wonderful. I would just love that!
Yes. Fond memories(and lots of great pictures.)
My Dad retired from Bremerton and my brother is in his 28th year there. I've been to many a family day at PSNSY, and if you mean by “crappy” that the buildings are old, dirty, drafty, smelly, loud, then you are correct. But keep in mind, many of the buildings were built between 1929-1939, and what a heroic job the men and women who worked in those buildings did during WWII. Building new ships and repairing badly damaged ships and sending them back out to sea in unbelievable time. Including my Dad's ship that was badly damaged by a kamikaze. He was proud of the work they did, which is why is went back their after the war to look for work.
Those old, dirty, drafty, and yes crappy buildings are that, - but they are so much more to the people that worked there and to the ghost that they say walk those floors.
When I lived in San Diego went to Miramar Air Show all the time. But to be on the deck and have photos!!!:)
It was the worse year of my 5 I spent on that ship. No sailor likes a ship yard stand down, because it means you will be assigned to painting crews, fire watch, rust chipping, tear-out crews, and other task that you did not join the Navy to do. I Hated Philly.
Just goes to prove old man Rickover's selection process wasn't fool proof
That sounds like SLEP which was a three year sentence in Philly.
First prize one year in Phila.
Second Prize three years in Phila.
Other than that, it pretty much sucked.

Post or FReepmail me if you wish to be enlisted in or discharged from the Navair Pinglist.
The only requirement for inclusion in the Navair Pinglist is an interest in Naval Aviation.
This is a medium to low volume pinglist.
