(CNN) -- Facebook wants your address and mobile phone number.
But it's not sure exactly how to ask.
It's a complicated digital courtship, particularly because Facebook doesn't just want this data for itself -- it wants to "share" this info with all of its friends, which in this case happens to be app developers (think FarmVille, Compare People and Where I've Been -- all that non-Facebook stuff that pops up in your news feed).
That may sound confusing, but the debate over this Facebook phone-number-sharing -- which caused Facebook to backtrack a bit from the request after bloggers and users expressed outrage this weekend -- essentially comes down to two related questions:
Why does Facebook want your phone number and address?

My land line phone number on Facebook: 800.555.1212
Cell: 800.555.2121
Nothing like phone number munging to give the telemarketers a few headaches!
This is why I deleted my Facebook account (TMI)
No way, those are my numbers.
Facebook’s phone number is +1 (650) 543-4800. They don’t offer tech support over the phone, but you can reach law enforcement, copyright claims, etc. through this phone number.
A good one to use.
(if they want to use your personal info). IOW, they are selling it.
Why do they want your phone number and address? Simple. Because telemarketers can get around the Do Not Call list if you have a “relationship” with a “business partner”.
We can’t build a factory in this country anymore, but we sure can create multi-billion dollar companies that use our own computers to data-mine our lives for advertisers (to sell us Chinese products). No wonder our economy is in the tank!
Just use facebook’s phone number.
Mine is the annoying 1-877-kars-4-kids. Imus is looking to run over me. Help.
Another great phone number is 800-RING-CAM.

Operators are standing by!
Be careful everyone they are already giving them out!
Facebook users advised to remove personal details after developers gain access to phone numbers and addresses
“The social networking site announced the change on its blog, saying: ‘We are now making a user’s address and mobile phone number accessible.’
Internet security analysts and privacy experts are now advising people to remove their phone numbers and addresses from the site.”
my phone number is listed
867-5301.
LOL
867-530-nigh-ee-eye-ee-ein...
Is 8 better than 867-5301
I don’t consider this an issue. I just don’t give them a phone number or address, plus I check off every possible privacy option.
You can’t see a post of mine unless I give permission.
I’m there to keep in touch with my relatives around the USA .
I’m with you. I did not give them my phone number or address. To do so would be stupid.
But one is the lonliest number.
Pennsylvania 6-5000.
err..d’oh.
whatever. I might change it to the congressional switchboard. That’d be fun.
