In the aftermath of the attempted murder of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords earlier this month, lawmakers on Capitol Hill have proposed a cluster of gun control measures ranging from a ban to knowingly carrying a firearm within 1,000 feet of certain high-profile government officials to a proposal to allow members of Congress to carry firearms in the U.S. Capitol.
Rep. Carolyn McCarthy formally introduced her own bill on the House floor Tuesday that would ban high-capacity ammunition clips like the one Jared Loughner used to gun down 19 individuals in the Tucson shooting Jan. 8.
McCarthy, who is regarded as one of the toughest gun-control proponents on Capitol Hill, has dedicated her congressional service to reducing gun violence after a tragic incident in 1993 in which gunman Colin Ferguson unleashed a hail of bullets aboard a packed Long Island Railroad commuter train, and used 15-round magazines to kill six people, including McCarthys husband, and injured 19 more, including her son.
I know what its like to have tragedy brought to your life in a split second by a madman with high-capacity ammunition magazines, McCarthy said. Im working to stop it from happening again. We need comprehensive reform to reduce the number of people hurt or killed by gunfire in America, but one simple way we can do that is by keeping the worst tools of mass murder away from the general public. This nation has come together before to support this simple, commonsense measure, and it is the law in several states right now. It is a small sacrifice that law-abiding gun owners can make once again in order to increase everyones safety.

It's not about capacity. It's about victim disarmament. Libs want to transform every Arizona city into Tucson, and every American city into gun-free paradisos such as we have south of the border.
Today it's clips and if left unchecked, tomorrow it's magazines.

Redundancy will get you everywhere. ; )
“Today it’s clips and if left unchecked, tomorrow it’s magazines.”
On the bright side Boehner will not allow these bills to get voted on. The sting of the economy will make this Tucson tragedy forgotten in about three - six weeks.

From the LA Times....
“... one official who has had the video described to him in detail said it showed that Giffords was shot first, followed by U.S. District Judge John M. Roll, who was standing near Giffords. Roll, 63, Arizona’s senior federal judge, was killed.”
So, with ONLY a 10 round magazine Giffords would still have been shot, and Roll killed.
I did not find any info on how many others were killed with the first 10 rounds.
Take the ammo clips away from them and they will use something else. Somewhere I read that a guy in Puerto Rico poured kerosene all over an entire wedding party and set them on fire with a blowtorch. Fourteen people were burned and five died.
In Kuwait, where it is harder to get guns and bullets, this happened in 2009: The wedding tent turned into an inferno as the ex-wife poured kerosene soaked in rags on the tent and set it aflame. The flimsy wedding tent burned down in just three minutes, and 41 wedding guests were charred so badly, the inferno left the bodies unrecognizable. Two other guests later died in the hospital bringing the death toll to 43 female wedding guests and 52 wedding guests still in the hospital with injuries and burns.
This tells me that if one wants to create death and carnage no law is going to stop them.
For those who do have guns with high capacity magazines, such a law will have a big impact on them. They will either have a useless gun, unable to use the magazine made for the gun, or will have to buy one that is legal. Such a law will hurt gun owners who just want to have a weapon.
these folks are stunning dunces
I could think of much more pleasing distractions to forget to.
You do have a good point however.
Carolyn knows this bill is going to go nowhere and is just trying to score points for the 2012 election.
You have to wonder why the writer would credit her for trying to “stop gun violence” but not give the statistics to show whether she is a success or failure.
4 paragraphs and it doesn’t say her political party.
No bias there.

Killed six? Only six people of all those packed in a train car like sardines?
Patrick Sherrell killed 14 with two .45 auto pistols loaded with 7 round magazines at the Edmond Oklahoma post office back in 1986.
These idiots believe only the bottom rounds in a magazine do the killing. What are the top 10 for, noise makers?
I have three, one antique flintlock, one modern rifled barrel and one revolver.
John Parkinson on Republicans:
During his Pen & Pad briefing on Jan. 4, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor said the phrase job killing eight times over the course of the briefing.
Cantor, R-Virginia, used the term earlier this month to describe everything from cutting the job killing regulations, and a job killing health care bill that spends money we don’t have, to the Obama Administrations job killing agenda.
Second Paragraph.
John Parkinson on Democrats;
McCarthy’s party is mentioned in the 5th paragraph after mentioning her name 4 previous times.
Here is another thing to watch out for because you know how this works once they get something like this started.

I guess the media will be calling this bill symbolic also
Thanks to last November, Ms. Carolyn will never get her bill to committee.
Socialist party?
What is my prize.
