~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Boat Trip: USS Carl Vinson ~ CVN 70

Carrier Strike Group One, also known as CSG-1, is one of six U.S. Navy carrier strike groups currently assigned to the United States Pacific Fleet. CSG-1 is currently based at Naval Air Station North Island, and it is deployable to the U.S. Seventh Fleet operating in the Western Pacific and the U.S. Fifth Fleet in the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf. The current flagship for Carrier Strike Group One is the Nimitz-class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70).

USS Carl Vinson was commissioned on March 13, 1982 at Newport News, Virginia, with Captain Richard Martin commanding. Present were the Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Thomas B. Hayward, Secretary of the Navy John F. Lehman, Keynote speaker Senator John Tower, and ship's sponsor Molly Snead. After commissioning, USS Carl Vinson put to sea to conduct flight deck certifications, an evaluation designed to test the ship’s ability to conduct Modern US Navy carrier air operations.

Carl Vinson departed Norfolk on March 1, 1983 with Carrier Air Wing Fifteen (CVW-15) embarked for her maiden deployment, an eight-month around the world cruise to her new homeport of Naval Air Station Alameda, California, arriving on 28 Oct. 1983.

The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) is deployed with USS Bunker Hill (CG 52), USS Stockdale (DDG 106) and USS Gridley (DDG 101). Destroyer Squadron 1 is embarked aboard Vinson along with Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 17.

CVW-17 is comprised of the "Red Lions" of Helicopter Anti-submarine Squadron 15, the "Fighting Redcocks" of Strike Fighter Squadron 22, the "Fist of the Fleet" of Strike Fighter Squadron 25, the "Sunliners" of Strike Fighter Squadron 81, the "Rawhides" of Fleet Logistics Support Squadron 40, the "Garudas" of Electronic Attack Squadron 134, the "Stingers" of Strike Fighter Squadron 113 and the "Tigertails" of Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 125.

This deployment by the Vinson Strike Group includes several firsts. It is the first major deployment for USS Carl Vinson after a three-year nuclear refueling, and it is the first major deployment by Carrier Strike Group 1 (CSG-1) since its establishment October 1, 2009.

CSG 1 led USS Carl Vinson and USS Bunker Hill earlier this year in support of disaster response and humanitarian operations in Haiti. This is also the first deployment of the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS Stockdale, and USS Bunker Hill's first deployment since it underwent cruiser modernization, the first Ticonderoga class guided missile cruiser to complete its mid-life modernization.

Yeah, I read typo too.
It was serious enough to be concerned about driving it 200 miles home, as it turns out. We had blown gaskets and a warped intake manifold. It’s a good thing we had it towed to the shop. We’ll drive back up over the next weekend and pick it up.

They are pathetic for sure. And the quote of the year...

...”if it weren’t for double standards, they’d have no standards”...

I LOVED it!

I reckon.

It’s like I said a few months ago - life is great, even when it isn’t.

Hey Jinx. Just read your comment about Nana’s car. Hope the gasket and intake are the extent of the problems.

Sounds like you’re gonna be doin’ some backyard mechanic stuff or finding a friendly mechanic.

Hope all works out well.
