WASHINGTON -- A longtime Senate gun control advocate announced plans Monday to introduce legislation banning high-capacity ammunition clips like the one linked to a weekend shooting that left six dead and an Arizona congresswoman gravely wounded.
Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., said he would introduce the measure to re-establish a prohibition that lapsed in 2004 on clips that feed more than 10 rounds at a time.
"The only reason to have 33 bullets loaded in a handgun is to kill a lot of people very quickly. These high-capacity clips simply should not be on the market," Lautenberg said in a written statement announcing his plans. He said he would file the bill when the Senate returns to session later this month...

The NJ courts decided that the right of the ppl to vote for their party candidate overruled the state constitution, iirc. right?
Frank, take your drool cup and go sit in the corner.
The current law in MA references large capacity "ammunition feeding device" or AFD. Not clips or mags. The Socialists here know how to cover their arses.
He retired already, but he was recruited to run again at the last minute when corrupt POS Senator Torricelli(sp?) was heading for a loss. The corrupt NJ Supreme Court said Lautenberg could replace Torricelli after the filing deadline.
WRONG. He forgot “to defend yourself for longer than you can with a ten round clip.”

Yes, I think you are correct.
The DemonRATS got the courts to legislate new rules just for them.
Rest assured, if this ruling ever favors a Republican, the DemonRATS will get it overturned. Guaranteed.
So if I bring a link from my M60 into Mass, I’m a criminal? That’s sort of unlimited as to capacity. Or do I need to bring in 11 links?
I knew that. See comment# 24. I forgot the year they pulled their trick with Torricelli. I assume he will retire after this term.
PLEASE!!! Natural causes to rid us of this flaming a$$hole.
He retired in 2000
Per Wikimedia at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Lautenberg
At age 86, he is currently the oldest serving member of the Senate.
first serving from 1982 to 2001 and again since 2003.
Lautenberg announced his retirement in 2000 then came out of retirement to run again in 2002.
Lautenberg is considered one of the Senate's most liberal members. He is pro-choice, supports gun control,
No, no. They define it that way. They don't restrict carry or usage. As a Class A LTC holder, I have no restrictions on firearm or capacity that I am permitted to carry concealed. A Class B LTC holder has restrictions that keep them from lawfully carrying over 10 round capacity feeding devices.
Not sure how MA law interacts with other states laws. I think they are fairly hostile to other states permits. But...why the hell would you want to come to this shiite hole anyway?
I'm afraid it's a LOT worse than that: SCOTUS agreed with the State Supremes! It's now the law of all 57 states.
A long time gun control advocate doesn’t know the difference between a magazine and a clip? This only highlights the problem we have generally in this country. Ignorant people making laws about things they don’t know jack about.
Thank you for the dates, TYVets. I forgot they re-elected him in 2008.
33 bullets in a handgun without the rest of the cartridge would do much damage
Torecelli was a shoe in against Doug Forrester, a rich buisnessman, Republican (as much as can be in NJ) until it came to light that Torecelli was involved with and got huge amounts of dirty money from some guy who is now in prison.
The state constitution said that if someone was going to drop out, as ‘the torch’ planned on doing, it had to be no less than 55 (?) days before the election. Torecelli was looking to get out 50 (?) days before and the Republicans said the dems should not be allowed to pull his name and replace it with Lautenberg.
The courts found otherwise and threw out the state constitution in favor of the dems. Torecelli was admonished by the Senate Ethics Committee and I think he is a lobbiest now. There were more hints at illegal stuff he did in the years after the election... but nothing has (or will) ever come of it.
I remember all of it because it was my 1st election after moving back to the state and i was disgusted by how it played out.
and don’t forget that the PRNJ has a Supreme Court that holds itself to be the preeminent expert on all things that involve the State and Federal Constitutions and found that all of this switcheroony was perfectly legal!!!
I understand loughner had bacon and eggs for breakfast that fateful morning. It is time we banned not only bacon and eggs, but hogs and chickens.
Stuff like that makes me.. breathless with anger and frustration. It is a wonder we stand a chance at all, with the way it is increasingly stacked against us.
