Internet Controlled Shotguns Discovered In Georgia (Yes, you read that correctly)
CBS Atlanta / The Augusta Chronicle ^ | January 17, 2011

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Georgia authorities are investigating the discovery of six loaded shotguns aimed at a food plot that were rigged to be fired through a network of Web-controlled cameras.

The Augusta Chronicle reported the guns were discovered last fall on Georgia Power Company right of way in rural south Georgia.

The set up was discovered by a utility contractor and it was reported to the U.S. Office of Homeland Security.

The newspaper reported that a bulletin circulated by the Office of Homeland Security said it appeared that the rig was only intended for illegal hunting in an area known to be infested with wild hogs.

The newspaper reported that by the time officers arrived to investigate the shotgun setup had been removed.

We used to have a bunch of hogs living in the trees across the street. They’d tear up my neighbors yards and make lots of noise at night.

Then a florida panther moved in and the hogs have become less of a problem.

It wasn’t private land it was power company right of way, and leaving a deadly device out is illegal. Next thing to fool rigging a shotgun to go off when someone opens a door. All of which has worked out badly for the fools that did it.

He must have spared one more camera to watch the equipment itself and flag him for any need to come pick it up.

Yeah, trespass is an issue. From the setup, I don’t think accidental discharge would be a problem either. Even if it goes off, it’s not going to hit anyone unless they are trespassing on his property. In which case, the question becomes why the homeowner has an obligation to ensure the safety of those who enter the property without his permission.

Yep, they have large litters up to twice a year and very low mortality rates.

While most around here don’t get much bigger than 300 lbs there have been a few in the 400-600 lb range.

Cars are deadly devices. Ask the families of millions of dead.

Do you read? The additional article posted up thread said no charges were filed because no crime was committed.

So now he’s a pervert?

A brain is a terrible thing to waste and shooting off the mouth is more dangerous than this setup.

I’m willing to bet it was private land, we have 2 right of way’s going across the big ranch, one is a large pipeline right of way and the other is electric line’s. Those gates are kept locked at all time’s only they have combinations to the lock’s. Only they have permission to go down the right away’s no one else. A right away does not mean it’s open to the public.

“It is also illegal”

So is speeding. Not paying your fair share of taxes. Running red lights.

If this is a feral hog eradication device, build more of them. They are tearing the crap out of the land throughout the South.

Why would you use expensive Benelli shotguns in the set up.

Those South Georgians are snobs.

I need a Benelli.

We all do ;-) (Well, most of us, anyway)

Their old model Super 90 was called 'the fastest firing shotgun in the world".  I would imagine that this year's line aren't a bunch of slowpokes either.
