Wisconsin Republican Party Chairman Reince Priebus led after the first ballot in the race for chairman of the Republican National Committee.
Needing 85 votes among the 168 members to win, Priebus took 45 votes in the first round. Trailing Priebus after one round is Chairman Michael Steele with 44 votes, former RNC official Maria Cino with 32 votes, Michigan Committeeman Saul Anuzis with 24 votes, and former Missouri GOP Chairwoman Ann Wagner with 23 votes.
Several more ballots are expected before someone reaches the 85-vote threshold. Steele won the 2009 race after six rounds, defeating a five-candidate field that included Anuzis and then-Chairman Mike Duncan.
All eyes are now on Steele to see if his support begins to dwindle. In 2009, Duncan dropped out after three rounds after watching his vote total dwindle from 52 to 44. He had led after the first round and was tied with Steele after the second round.
The sense here is that if Steele did not finish in first place after the first ballot, he would have a difficult chance of winning. Still, much of the talk among members before this vote centered on whether Steele would leave the race when it became apparent he could not win...
Brian Bolduc on National Review has Wagner at 28 votes (-4).
The trend is definitely going Reince Priebus’ way.
Not looking good, looks like Priebus is climbing. Will too many of the Steele votes be sore about he turned on Steele, however?
Well looks like its about time for the last ballot whenthe fat lady sings. Looks like Reince, but the opposition votes can throw themsleves to Wagner and she wins. This is quite a show. I bet the deal makinng is going on big time and some serious arm twisting is going on.
We need someone who will let the tea party in big time, if not, then there will be a battle royal.
Sad day. We are our own worst enemy. RINOs are going to win.
philipaklein Philip Klein Steele announces withdrawal, receives standing ovation.
Looks like Steele is withdrawing.
Steele withdraws, endorses Cino.
Steele is OUT....
Steele bows out, endorses Cino
Michael Steele just bowed out of the race for RNC chairman after trailing in the first four rounds of balloting.
He then said he is backing Maria Cino’s candidacy.

Steele is a dirtbag...
endorses Cino? eek. Im so done with the RNC.
Good Luck Boys, Im sticking with the girls!!! wink wink
Being a incompetent, big-mouth, show-boat, Narcissistic RINO?
when do we accept far left stories as gospel around here.
From what I read, one of his collegues was explaining HC in’s and out’s to clients:
John Barlament, a colleague to Priebus at the firm, said that a health reform repeal is not only unlikely, but that the lawsuits brought by Republican Party allies to declare the law unconstitutional probably have no merit. Referring to the controversy over the individual mandate, Barlament explained that the commerce clause of the constitution gives Congress authority to act on his legislation.
Now maybe I missed it but where does it say that this candidate was professing this stand.
also I have hung around enough attorneys to know that they tend to be a pessimistic bunch. always giving their clients the negative just in case they lose.
And since when do we practice guilt by association.
Cino?
Conservative In Name Only (like Joe Scarborough!)
That should make the Texas delegates pull votes from CINO.
Wagner should drop and endorse Priebus...
RINO for a RINO
Standing ovation from the RNC for wanting nothing to do with the Tea Party and now being in financial ruin.
And this organization wants us to fund it so it can work against our best interests... LOL
