SAN CARLOS PARK, Fla. - A Lee County deputy goes in a woman's yard, and ends up facing off with a family pet. He shot the dog twice, and now the owner is furious, demanding answers, saying her dog did nothing wrong.
Christine Bonelli was inside her San Carlos Park home Thursday afternoon when she heard two shots. "First I thought it was fireworks and said no, that's gunshots I think," Bonelli said.
She stepped outside to find two deputies and her Foxhound Mix "Harley" with gunshot wounds. "Blood was coming out of his shoulder and on his leg, coming out of his mouth," Bonelli said.
A neighbor tells WINK News he warned deputies that Harley was in the fenced-in backyard, but they continued on. "They said he was in the chair when he came in the yard, and he came running and barking at them, protecting his property, he didn't bite them, he might have shown teeth, but they shot him twice," Bonelli said.

“Just wanted to add, its easy to mistake dog breeds from photos.”
I absolutely agree with that. Particularly when only one angle (or part of an angle) is available.
Thank you for helping our furry pals...thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Seriously, are the cop schools teaching cops to shoot dogs on site? If the cop was on the property at all, it wasn’t because of the dog. Yet the dog pays the highest price.
First and foremost, this is a brotherhood. Cops fired from one jurisdiction, get hired in another, just about no questions asked, or at least excused. The only duty of a cop is to enforce the law. That means after the crime has happened. They have no duty to protect us. All the more reason for us to be armed and protect ourselves.
But to shoot dogs in our yard? Because a gate is not secured? Was the gate to keep the dogs in, or a gun-happy cop out? I'd think my gate was to keep my dogs in my yard. If someone wants to come in there and shoot my dogs, most likely they would leave really ingured.
“Because a gate is not secured? “
Rather, because they claimed a gate was not secured.
I’m sure it wasn’t secured-—after the cops unlawfully entered this poor woman’s property.
The worst thing about these cop-shoots dog/citizen stories is that some twisted soul from the criminal element copies them, often in stolen or faked cop uniforms.
We have a problem when it grows hard to distinguish between the sheepdogs and the wolves.
Yep. Trigger happy. Just sad.
Bless your heart.
You know, bud....
You should take the advice of Mr. Samuel Langhorne Clemens.
“Its better to keep one’s mouth shut and be thought a damned fool than to open it and remove all doubt.”
You also have a distinct knack for stating your opinions as fact as well as assuming things. And as the late comedian Benny Hill once observed, “When you assume you make an ass out of u and me.”
Just because someone detests statist controls and distrusts government, (and its officers, I might add), makes them a nut in the class as Jared Loughner?
That’s quite a stretch.
I suppose Madison, Jefferson, Adams, Hamilton, et. al. were also in that league, huh?
If anyone in this thread needs to take their meds, its the guy who stares back at you from your bathroom mirror.
Did you go out to your skull shrine in between those meaningless posts.???
Actually, I’m a good Catholic boy. No skull shrines here.
I do confess to a statue of the Blessed Virgin in my back yard, though.
Do you have a shrine to your Holy Government and Sacred State?
