About 90 students at a Memphis High School are either pregnant, or have been recently.
The startling news was confirmed by a high ranking city official and comes as the community plans to roll out a new initiative to help combat the problem.
However, one Frayser High School graduate says teen pregnancy is not a new problem for the school.
"When we would come back from summer break, there would be a thousand people pregnant. We were like, what's going on?" joked Alicia Williamson, who graduated from Frayser in 2004.
"There were a whole lot of bellies. You had to watch out so you didn't bump into them. Being 2011, I thought a lot of them would have thought this is not the right way to go, having babies during school time," she added.
The organization, Girls, Inc. teaches girls about preventing pregnancy.
Deborah Hester Harrison, who heads the organization, says Memphis' teen pregnancy rate stands at between 15 and 20 percent, almost twice the national average.

You are exactly correct. There is a tv show called "16 and Pregnant" - supposed to educate girls against having unprotected sex. Almost every episode ends with the girl telling the camera that she would have waited had she realized how it was going to change her life.
Fast forward to one of the few couples who married (not a nice story though since he and his family accused the girl of having someone else's baby) - on a follow up show this couple said they were NOT using any sort of birth control. Even though they knew they were quite capable of conceiving, they were just too stupid/lazy/choose your own adjective to obtain free birth control.

Sure doesn't. Since the early 20th century (but really ramped up in the 1960s), the hippie/liberal/progressive cancer has eaten away at religion, personal responsibility and dignity. This is what "tolerance" gets you: people who are basically pets of the state. They get fed by the state, entertained by the state and are given a warm place to live and birth their offspring by the state. And a pat on the head by the P.C. chattering class for all of it.

Those facts about Frayser have moved from redneck to gangster. Raleigh is the same way. Creeping eastward to Bartlett and Cordova is gone. Everything is going to hell if the school system surrenders its charter.

Was that a complete surprise to the four girls? If so, it must have been an interesting afternoon for that little gathering.

MTVs 16 and Pregnant (reality show)
Before anyone makes statements about MTV “glorifying” teen pregnancy, watch the show - just the opposite is true. The boyfriends are always worthless and dump them; they discover that they are tied down and can’t be teen-agers anymore. There’s a lot of crying. You can see the (grand)parents age 10 years in right front of your eyes. Basically, not fun.
I have a big problem with schools “accommodating” pregnancy. This effectively encourages it.
