President Obama’s dramatic news at last night’s memorial service in Tucson that Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ has just minutes before opened her left eye for the first time since the shooting has created some confusion in light of news from doctors that Giffords “could open her eyes” on Sunday.
But doctors today provided a simple explanation: Wednesday was the first time Giffords opened her eyes on her own, which Giffords' neurosurgeon, Dr. Michael Lemole Thursday called “a major milestone.”
“When we examine patients, particularly in this state we have to ‘wake them up,’ give them some stimulus, and with that stimulus they might crack their eyes,” Lemole said today. “That’s very different from speaking to someone and having them open their eyes, or having them open their eyes spontaneously in response to familiarity.”

Tapper's a liberal Democrat, so of course he backs Obama. But look at his record. He has challenged Obama and Gibbs on several occasions:
... about whether Obama still smoked.
... about attacking Fox News as not being a real news organization.
... about whether the health care plan on the table allowed people to keep their current insurance.
... about whether Obama ever took a risk to work with Republicans when he was a Senator.
... about whether there had been terrorist attacks in the US since 9/11.
... about whether taxes on small business would go up under Obama.
.. about his associations with former members of the Weather Underground.
Sure, he's a liberal, and sure he's in Obama's corner, but he deserves better than you give him.
next week we will have the “fishes and loaves.”
And the Seahawks winning the NFC.
Why the Hell didn’t he just heal her completely?
The thought makes me want to puke.
I’m so sick and tired of this clown passing himself off as the savior of everything but then everything he touches goes to pot.
I realize he actually wants to stand out as a mere Socialist (vs. Leninist) for ratings, but I still cannot stand anyone on those networks.
Either Obama is a real miracle or this womans injury was made to be worse than it was.
Maybe he could perform “miracles” like that on jobs and the economy. /sarc

I think its fair to say that most people don’t know anything about this...and most people would assume ‘Gabby opened her eyes....for the first time Gabby opened her eyes’ meant, well...Gabby opened hr eyes for the very first time. It seems like more than something poorly worded...and more like an attempt to twist the truth a bit.

Very fair to say that most people outside medicine wouldn’t know this. Standard stuff to me, but likely to confuse the nonmedical listener.
Maybe for his next trick The Great and Powerful Obama can resurrect a dead economy?

The loathesome Tapper just could not stand for anyone to doubt the power of him messiah.
When Giffords showed signs of consciousness, someon said, “Thank God!” and Obama said, “You’re welcome.”
I thought it was stupid to try to make an argument about a victim of a mass shooting opening her eyes.
There’s no way that doesn’t come out badly for our side.
‘Cause he wants to make sure you tune in for the sequel.
He has always believed that he is the Messiah - now he will really believe that he is along with a lot of ignorant left wing nuts.
If that’s the case, then why were the earlier stories about her opening her eyes pulled?
Obama’s nose and ears keeping getting bigger, as Government gets bigger.
Maybe Obama thinks he is a Yoda.
