TUCSON, AZ -- Trent Humphries, the leader of the largest tea party group in this mourning southern Arizona city, has nothing but praise for the way President Obama has led the nation through the aftermath of Saturday's mass shooting at a constituent event for Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ). But Humphries won't be there tonight when Obama speaks at a memorial rally intended to unify Tucson after six people were killed in the tragedy.
Humphries says he's been getting threats at his home from people who seem to hold him and his organization partially responsible for the shootings Saturday.
Humphries told TPM he thinks Obama's visit will help put an an end to the political debates and let Tucson refocus on healing after the deaths of six of its citizens. Humphries told TPM he's called the Sheriff's department more than once in the past few days to make them aware of threatening phone calls.
"We got a not-so-veiled threat," Humprhies told me. "The Sheriff's deputies told me to stay away from public places."
The Pima County Sheriff's Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Humphries said the threats have coincided with Saturday's shooting and began nearly right away.
"We had people say, 'too bad it wasn't your family that was killed,'" Humphries told me. Other angry calls have come in as well. "'The blood of that little girl on your hands,'" Humphries recalled one message saying.
But it was a new call that came in this week that Humphries said had him staying out of public view for a while.
"It was something like 'we hate you and we're going to stand against you and we're going to use our First and Second Amendment rights to stop you,'" Humphries told me.

Interesting. How many people would be willing to walk into that cesspool of a rally and offer themselves up as a martyr to expose the unbridled hatred of the opposition?
I recall reading about someone who did something like that some time ago.
Though he won't be in attendance this evening, Humphries says he's glad Obama is coming to Tucson.
"I've been very impressed with the way he's handled things so far," he said. Humphries said the president has struck "the right tone" in the aftermath of the shooting
"From the way he's handled it so far he's been really impressive," Humprhies said of Obama.
Who got to this guy?
Is he recording these threats?
When the dust settles he needs to play them for the PUBLIC to see what the VILE actions of the Sheriff and Leftist Media have produced.
BTW shouldn’t the Deputies be PROTECTING him. Have they received direct orders from Sheriff Dipsh*t to NOT protect him.
He has evey right as a FREE Citizen to be in public whenever he wishes.
Hypocrisy.
I agree that it’s best to ignore the Obama arrival, but...
on April 15...
The Pima County Tea Party Rally of 2011 is ***ON***
You can bet the Kos, DUmmie and MorOn.org types will be outside with their obscene, anti-America/anti-Palin signs and banners. I’d stay as far away from that joint tonight as I could. Especially when they’ll be so many ‘RATS there hitting people up for donations for the DemocRAT candidates.
And a sign at the entrance with an estimate of the number of concealed carry permit holders present...
Apparently he is afraid of GUNS.
... memorial rally intended to unify Tucson after six people were killed ...
Because Tucson is evenly divided between those who think it's terrible that a judge, a child, and several elderly bystanders were killed, and those who believe a few random shootings just keep life interesting?
Our public discourse is unremitting twaddle.
Excuse me, but how exactly has Sheik Obama “led the country” in the aftermath of this crime?
He read a statement from TOTUS into a microphone. Has he done anything else?
This so-called Tea Party leader, instead of hiding in his house at the suggestion of the same government agency that implied it was he and others like him that are responsible for mass murder, ought to gather up a few hundred other patriots, close to this memorial, with some signs that say, "God bless the victims and their families" and then tell the media that shows up they're outraged that them and most others in government have blamed the Tea Party, veterans, Palin, conservatives, Republicans, and patriots etc...
Instead of hiding in their homes, lets see and hear someone down their stand up and state the damn truth!
You know as well as I do that, to a leftist, saying something about a problem
IS
“doing something about it”.
One more example of real world Lefty lynch-mob justice...
Take a look at this sports fans.

Obama’s plan is working.
Why couldnt he just go. What was he going to do, wear a tshirt and hold up a poster board? This is not a Rally this is a memorial. Big difference. For the sake of these families goodness gracious please let there not be politics.
Would you really want to go into a ‘everyone disarmed zone’ because of obama’s presence? You are threatened and prevented from protecting yours and yourself.
He is strong, tonight is not the place to be for him.
There is a time and a place for all actions. Easy for you to say what other people should and shouldn't do. I'll leave it up to others to determine what is the "best" course of action for themselves.

He and the wookie walked outside for his daily photo op and LED the world in a moment of silence. /s
