TUCSON, Ariz. A wildlife officer pulled over the suspect in the assassination attempt against an Arizona congresswoman less than three hours before the deadly attack, authorities said Wednesday as they pieced together more details of a frenzied morning.
Jared Lougher ran a red light but was let off with a warning at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, the Arizona Game and Fish Department said. The officer took Loughner's driver's license and vehicle registration information but found no outstanding warrants on Loughner or his vehicle.

Agua Caliente an oasis in desert
The Arizona Daily Star - Friday, December 17, 1999

Roy P. Drachman-Agua Caliente Park is a little piece of paradise just northeast of North Soldier Trail and East Roger Road.
The 100-acre Pima County park offers peaceful picnicking, soothing strolling and close encounters with ducks lounging on the banks of the sites three lagoons.
It really is an oasis in the desert, says Amy Loughner , a natural resource specialist with the Pima County Parks and Recreation Department. People see it and say: Wow! A lot of them had no idea it even existed.
Display panels around the park offer nuggets of information on wildlife and human history in the area.
The site was part of a cattle ranch, and later a hot springs resort, in the late 1800s. A century later, in 1984, Pima County purchased the property with financial help from Tucson businessman Roy P. Drachman.
Loughner says wildlife in the area includes wood ducks, wigeons, javelina, mule deer and bobcats.

“You think a wildlife officer would know this kid? Really? Come on.”
—Well, considering his mom worked for the COUNTY NATURAL RESOURCES PARKS office, I would surmise there was a very likely chance...
Probably. The internet has very, very little information about his mother, but she works as an official for the county in some sort of unspecified wildlife/environmental job. Might even be this guy's boss.
No, I certainly don't know that. But evidently she's important enough politically so the Sheriff repeatedly let the kid off on drug charges and threatening to murder charges, and admitted that he did so because of his mother's position in the County government.
The media have assiduously avoided saying much about the parents. Quite a contrast to the way they continually investigate all of Sarah's kids, and even the babies in her family.
Within their jurisdiction, yes. And for littering, which cost me $25 back in '70.
Even if the mom did know the cop, the kid and the car were clean! There was no reason to detain this kid. Jeez, people.
There most certainly is a cover-up of some kind going on. From “me-thinks-thou-protesteth-too-much” loud-mouth Sheriff Dupnik to the squelching of county records on the little evil creep himself.
It’s stinking pretty badly now.
They can in VA
He lives with his parents in a middle-class neighborhood in southern Arizona. His mother, Amy Loughner, works for Tucsons Parks Department. The employment history of his father Randy Loughner remains unknown.
Really? Come on.
You "come on." Really!
Amazing. I’ll go you one better, years ago my homeschooled kid was jogging around the block within sight of our house. It was around lunchtime. Our neighborhood police officer stopped him, questioned him about leaving the house w/out his parent’s permission during school hours (huh?), made him get in the back of the police car and brought him home (he was only 1/4 mile away), then insisted on speaking to me. The officer knew he was homeschooled (he was our regular community officer) but must have enjoyed hassling a 14 year old kid (he was visibly shaken.)
He probably figured he wouldn’t be going home that day.
He took a one way ride.
Yeah, it’s called law enforcement “poaching”. Here in NorCal in the unincorporated “town” of Castro Valley, the California Highway Patrons and the Alameda Co. Sheriff’s Dept. are having a “turf war” as to who gets to enforce traffic laws. Unfortunately, the locals get more than their fair share of traffic tickets as a result. Who knows what’s next. Both the BART police and the East Bay Regional Parks police have Crown Vics and guns and are also in the area!
“The article doesn’t say if they knew eachother. We deal with facts around here, not ‘very likely chance.’
Er, I’m guessing they probably asked for some sort of ID, which would’ve listed his last name and residence...
And tell me how big the department is if you are going to make your claim about “dealing in facts”...
I’m not stating as fact anything. I’m not declaring the mom was involved in a “coverup” because I have no knowledge of that fact (and she and her husband appear to be very grief stricken over this, as any family would be). If the family did all they could with an obviously difficult child, my heart goes out to them.
But I think it’s interesting that this fact is just coming out today, in light of Jared’s previous arrests and death threats.
Joe Arpaio is my hero.
A very troubled young man for quite some time it appears.
And still, not one shred of evidence that he paid any attention to anything conservative.
“Wildlife officers can pull people over for speeding?”
Curious as to how eight posts prior to yours, and nobody mentioned it. THAT is exactly what struck me as I read the excerpt.
Now I’m wondering about Tuscon, and what they call their police. Seems everything is about the Sheriff, and the Sheriff’s office. Maybe as Tuscon is such a Liberal city they call their Police “Wildlife Officers”.
Couldn’t get the car keys back from Dad later that day...?
I missed that. Do you have a source?
But it does not matter. Even if this cop and the kid's mom knew eachother, the kid was clean and the car was clean. There was no reason for a search/arrest.
So basically, everyone around here is complaining that this kid got a warning and not a ticket. Either way, he would have been on his way in short order.
I agree. Certainly folks here aren't looking for 'Minority Report' policing.
PS Congrats on the gold bars, LT!
