A Divisive Sheriff

Security: It's bad enough that a fine congresswoman is shot down by a crazed assassin. But do those whose job it is to prevent such awful things have to insert their own base politics into the tragedy?

As a key law enforcement figure in the assassination attempt against Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik, a Democrat, might be expected to show some caution in commenting on the violent swirl of bitter, unsubstantiated and outright false accusations made by Democrats on the left against the Tea Party, Sarah Palin and conservative bloggers.

Blaming the Tea Party or Sarah Palin — or anyone on the right — misses the mark. As has been noted too many times to mention, accused shooter Jared Loughner seems to be a schizophrenic, a paranoid — a man who suffers severe delusions and violent fantasies.

Though described by former friends as a "left-wing pothead," his rantings were in fact insane. Yes, he was a 9/11 Truther and had a keen interest in both Hitler's "Mein Kampf" and Marx's "Communist Manifesto," but he had no known ties to any political group.

Even so, Dupnik couldn't resist targeting Republicans and the Tea Party as somehow responsible for Loughner's murderous actions.

"When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government — the anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country, is getting to be outrageous," Dupnik said Sunday.

The Giffords family is closely politically connected with the Democrat party. Gifford's family is receiving $160,000/yr from the City of Tucson on a 55 yr lease of an acre of vacant land near downtown Tucson - payola at taxpayers expense. http://gabbywatch.com/2008/10/31/the-following-was-taken-from-the-arizona-eighth-blog-site/

The perps mother, Amy Laughner, works for Pima County Parks and Recreation as an Environmental Specialist, but that probably has little to do with the failure of the Pima County Sheriff's Department to follow up on Laughner's threats. Dupnik is just plainly incompetent, and an apparatchik of the Democrat Party. This Sheriff Nudnik is about as intelligent as Joe Biden.

You can't dismiss Dupnik so easily from this case ~ from his first public statement right down to this very day he has clearly been seeking to draw our attention away from "WHAT WENT ON BEFORE" because he has friends involved and he knows it.

My best guess given the degree of evasion he has engaged in is that HE is deeply involved in events leading up to the assassination.

Yeah but they're both on t.v. and you're not. ;-)

Hey Sheriff Nudnik

Perhaps the nutcase was upset about something else:

* No more Classic Coke
* No more brown M&M’s
* Simon isn’t on American Idol anymore
* He didn’t get the Christmas present he wanted

Each of these highly provocative, highly toxic and hateful events have exactly as much evidence to support them, as your accusations.

I wonder what Nudnik’s success rate is in his investigations? Are they all as incompetent and clueless as his analysis on this case? Detective Clouseau at least made an attempt at following a known clue - rather than inventing them from whole cloth. The taxpayers deserve better than this fool.

Agreed—Dope-nik is in deep doo-doo, and the MSM is furiously avoiding that aspect of the story.

I bet you Judy Clarke's defense got easier because of idiot Sheriff statements. He is giving her a expert law enforcement defense.

What a vast difference between Nudnik and Joe Arpaio.

Arpaio should be our next attorney general while Nudnik should continue his ignominious life as a bouncer in a gay bar. Or a towel boy in a brothel.

Haven’t seen anyone question why there apparently wasn’t any sheriff’s presence at the meet and greet at the Safeway? Had there been, that judge and that child might still be alive. Wouldn’t have anything to do with why the Sheriff has been so motivated to bloviate in other directions to distract from the core responsibilities he and his department failed to carry out that morning?

I mean, come on. A member of the U.S. Congress schedules a public meeting at a shopping center in her district IN ADVANCE WITH NOTICE, yet the Sheriff doesn’t even assign one deputy to drive over, park, and observe the event? On a Saturday morning? Why has the failure of law enforcement to be present at a congressional public meet and greet NOT been brought up by anyone in the MSM?

That the democrats, in total disarray from the last election, would jump on ANY chance to demonize Palin, the Tea Party etc. is a fore gone conclusion.
The hatred that this political party and its sycophants in the media have for the Americans that turned them out is palpable...........

Laughner was arrested several times and his connected family somehow got the records expunged under the watch of this sherriff Dupnik. Laughner, with nothing on his record, bough a Glock in September.

That's the story here, not talk radio, but that Dupnik made it possible for Laughner to be armed.

The Denver talk radio station (KHOW) has a really sharp morning show (Peter Boyles) and he’s terming the Tucson sheriff “Sheriff Dipstick”. He’s gathered plenty of info to show that this sheriff has “lawyered up” with the information showing that he was a typical libtard incomopetent.

In fact, Peter Boyles has rendered the ultimate Colorado insult: Tucson is like Boulder, CO. Boulder had a Chief of Police who brought new levels of incompetence to the position during the investigation into the “kidnapping” and murder of that little girl years ago.

True enough. There is a class of sheriff who gets very defensive and very stupid the second he realizes it was probably one of his family members or a close friend who did the crime.

If this was in Tucson proper, I imagine the sheriff’s department would not be providing security, but rather Tucson PD.

That said, I’m wondering why the Sheriff’s Department is involved at all...I would expect TPD to be running the investigation with support from the FBI and Secret Service.

Gotcha Sheriff Clarence “Jackas*” Dupnik

Oh, you better hope this is not true:

“The sheriff has been editorializing and politicizing the event since he took the podium to report on the incident. His blaming of radio personalities and bloggers is a pre-emptive strike because Mr. Dupnik knows this tragedy lays at his feet and his office. Six people died on his watch and he could have prevented it. He needs to step up and start apologizing to the families of the victims instead of spinning this event to serve his own political agenda.”

What have I been saying? That in point of fact the Sheriff had every opportunity to stop this assault by actually enforcing the law and didn’t do so.
Well now the truth is alleged to be this..... it’s much worse, it appears, than anyone thought:

“Jared Loughner has been making death threats by phone to many people in Pima County including staff of Pima Community College, radio personalities and local bloggers. When Pima County Sheriff’s Office was informed, his deputies assured the victims that he was being well managed by the mental health system. It was also suggested that further pressing of charges would be unnecessary and probably cause more problems than it solved as Jared Loughner has a family member that works for Pima County. Amy Loughner is a Natural Resource specialist for the Pima County Parks and Recreation.”

What’s your response to this Mr. Dupnik? A bit of truth comes out, eh? Exactly how many felonies did you decline to investigate and prosecute? Are you going to slink away from the white-hot light of truth or will you “man up” and admit that your scurrilous allegations were disseminated simply to try to save your own hide from the entirely-appropriate wrath at the ballot box that is certain to ensue come next election?
The suspect didn’t just post one threat on an Internet forum and there wasn’t “just one” incident - it’s alleged here that he made multiple death threats against the staff of the college he was ejected from, radio personalities and local bloggers.
Each and every one of those threats was an offense and had just one of them been prosecuted it would have resulted in the suspect being blacklisted in the NICS database - and thus he would not have been able to buy the gun he shot the people in Tuscon with.

And before you go off on this guy and his blog being some sort of nut, here’s the credentials from his page:

James Kelley is a native of Tucson, born here in 1961. A Navy veteran, he graduated twice from the Defense Language Institute in Monterey CA majoring in Albanian and Persian-Farsi. He was a Balkan area, Middle East North Africa, Southwest Asia, and Gulf Area analyst for the Naval Security Group and the National Security Agency. He received his Bachelor of Science in Sociology from the University of the State of New York, Albany. Since leaving the service he has worked as a premium cruise line representative, telecommunications specialist, real estate broker, and as a substitute teacher in local school districts.

Presently, Mr. Kelley is a contributing columnist for the Arizona News-Telegraph and the Executive Director of SocialNetworkingWatchdog.Org, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to educating youth and seniors on personal security while using social networking.

Does Arizona have a recall process for so-called “elected officials” who behave like this and refuse to accept responsibility for their conduct - including but not limited to blaming others for their own failures that result in the death of innocent people? How about some sort of impeachment procedure? If you don’t, you need both - right now.

Best-a-luck in the next election Sheriff. You’re gonna need it.

There are both federal and state laws that can be invoked to prosecute the sheriff. I suppose that a trip to a federal penitentiary might create a condition where he could lose his job so you could save your recall money to finance a campaign by a Republican.

Is Stupnik an elected or appointed official? If he’s elected, let’s hope the T-Party puts up an opponent.

I is most likely that Sheriff Dips*** is going to be a prime Defense witness to establishing the shooter's (Uncle Fester of Lex Luthor (you decide)) insanity defense.

If this evil sheriff had any decency, he would resign asap and follow the Japanese traditions of Seppuku for his aid and abetting the killer to stay free to slaughter innocent Arizonians.

On Fox Across America last night, Spencer Hughes talked to some guy who purported to work under Sheriff Nudnik for some time, though not now. Apparently, this bozo is just a figurehead who does nothing but collect a paycheck and golf more than his maximum Barackness. Worse yet, this diarrhea of the mouth is nothing new for Nudnik.

To answer your question, according to this guy, he was first appointed as Sheriff many years ago to replace the then-sitting Sheriff who quit, but the Pinheads in Pima County keep re-electing him.

Personally, I’d like to see this Nudnik get the same treatment as that Nifong turkey in NC who pushed the false rape charge on the Duke Lacrosse team a few years ago.
