Ex-Rep. Paul Kanjorski, D-Pa., pens an op-ed in the New York Times today about the proper political response to this weekend's tragedy. I wholeheartedly support the former Congressman (Kanjorski lost his seat in November) when he argues that, following this weekend's shooting, Congressman need to remain open and accessible to the public. However, Kanjorski is rather hypocritical when he climbs up on his soapbox:
We all lose an element of freedom when security considerations distance public officials from the people. Therefore, it is incumbent on all Americans to create an atmosphere of civility and respect in which political discourse can flow freely, without fear of violent confrontation.
Incumbent on all Americans to create an atmosphere of civility and respect? Congressman heal thyself! Yesterday, I noted that, according to the Scranton Times, Kanjorski said this about Florida's new Republican Governor Rick Scott on October 23:
"That Scott down there that's running for governor of Florida," Mr. Kanjorski said. "Instead of running for governor of Florida, they ought to have him and shoot him. Put him against the wall and shoot him. He stole billions of dollars from the United States government and he's running for governor of Florida. He's a millionaire and a billionaire. He's no hero. He's a damn crook. It's just we don't prosecute big crooks."
I'll give Kanjorski the benefit of the doubt that he did not literally mean Scott schould be killed. Regardless, Kanjorski's way over the rhetorical line compared to the kinds of statements liberals are pointing to as evidence that Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh are creating a "climate of hate," to borrow Paul Krugman's phrase. And somehow I doubt that there would have been crickets from the national media if a Republican politician called for a Democratic candidate to be shot barely a week before the election.
Why is it that when Muslims commit a murder, or a mass murder, there’s no soul searching for a cause or discussions about preventing future acts? Could it be that all of this rhetoric is really just a smoke screen for finding ways to suppress political opponents and opposition? [Rhetorical question]
Looks like they disabled comments for the piece of crap op-ed. The NYT wouldn’t want the truth to get out about this liberal hack who literally incited violence.
An American civil war is coming. The left will start it as their power declines and people increasingly resist their legislative and cultural oppressions and confiscations of liberty and property.
"Instead of running for governor of Florida, they ought to have him and shoot him. Put him against the wall and shoot him..."
Now that is about as 'inciting' and 'violent' as you can get. No ifs ands or buts, he's calling for Rick Scott to be assassinated by Firing Squad - period.
If some Moonbat 'sniper' did whack Scott after that, he could truthfully say he was motivated by former Congressman Kanjorski's statement.
"My Congressman said he was a crook and deserved to die. I believed him and so I followed his 'orders'."
And if I was the Moonbat's Lawyer I sure as heck would use that as part of his defense strategy. Whether the trial judge would allow it is something else. But I'd try like heck to get that in.
Its translation:
[around or relating to the political class]an atmosphere of civility and respect [around or relating to the political class]in which political discourse [subversion and regulation by the political class]can flow freely [and be attended to and adhered to by the non-political class], without fear of violent confrontation [by those outside the political class].
The key is he calls for "political discourse" to flow freely and then calls for no accountability for the subversion and subjugation which he plans to make a part of such discourse.
This is all one large political scam. The Democrats are just dying to use this shooting against Republicans, and anyone with a brain can figure that out. This shooting had nothing to do with any sane person.
That's the only means they have left after the midterm election shellacking !
Sheriff Dipstick continues to fueling the "War" which Glenn Book is warning us about!!
However the left's thugs will be squashed like stepping on a fly when 60 million American armed citizen wakes up to the call of "duty," just let them try!!!
This quote by Rep Kanjorski should be forwarded to every newspaper, every tv network. He said it on Oct 23 when he was still a sitting member of Congress. So we have a sitting dem member of Congress outright calling for the assassination of a GOP gubenatorial candidate, and gloating about it to boot.
Where was President Obama? A member of his party is calling for the murder of someone and he said nothing?
Where was Spkr Pelosi? A member of her caucus is advocating violence against someone and she said nothing?
Where was VP Biden? Or Rep Hoyer? Or Gov Kaine? Or any other high ranking dem? Where was the NYT? CBS? NPR?
They were nowhere. to be found. They said nothing.
Gov Palin has never said anything even remotely close to this. Neither has any Tea Party member or leader. Neither has Limbaugh or Beck or whoever else. Nothing close.
And the NYT has the gall to bring in Kanjorski, a man who called for someone to be assassinated, to write about civility? They need to be called out for this.
I know O’Reilly is interviewing Obama before the Super Bowl. Hopefully he comes “armed” with this quote and asks him to comment. Asks Obama to comment on the DCCC’s target map going after Republicans who voted against the stimulus. Asks him to comment on his calling on hispanics to punish their enemies, about calling on his supporters to bring guns to the political process, about saying he’s looking for someone’s ass to kick, etc...
FNC was very good in showing similar dem target maps last night. Hopefully they highlight this Kanjorski quote, which not one person on the left or in the media ever said anything about.
Hypocrisy, thy name is the left.
Contrast the reaction from the Ft Hood shootings, and this one.
Or for that matter, the Omaha School shooting.
Even if someone on the GOP side of the aisle is shot, claiming inspiration from this guy, it will still be Palin’s fault.
If we were to weigh in balance the hatred spewed by democrat leftists and the hatred spewed the left attributes to Palin and the Tea Party the democrat leftist’s side of the scale would plummet so fast and deep they’d burst the boundaries of hell.
Which is where, I affirm, they belong.
I see others think as I do.I don’t like it, but I don’t see any way out of a civil war. It will either be civil war or full fledged communism. Take your pick, folks.
Shows once again that the media shill for the Demwits. Period. And that is *all* the media do.
Can’t be soon enough.
But remember—they don’t write the narrative anymore.
Obama will suffer politically as a result of his orders to “bring a gun,” and this guy Kanjorski will likewise regret his stupidity.
Civil war is not a certainty at this point, not even close.
And what kind of self-inflicted foolishness would inspire a person to claim they hope for it?
THEY KNOW WHAT THEY DID.
You can look for a correction and apology on page 1 tomorrow, but don't bet money on it!
The still write the narrative, but for now it isn’t the only one out there. The Internet and talk radio has opened things up farther, but don’t disregard the pull the MSM still has.
