FYI -
Here are statements from Jim about the future of FreeRepublic.com for those who missed them. They are quite serious.
===
"Well, I can say that there are definitely two things that will never happen. 1) Banner ads. 2) Oracle [a completely new database system.] And a third is a total replacement [of the current damaged system.] Dont have the financial wherewithal."
"To those who wish to leave because of it, see ya."
"If FR dies, thats that."

Hey, you want us to get an all new system with all new software and add a few more pricey techs, system programmers and database administrators to keep it all working 100% of the time 24/7/365? Well, start coughing up the big bucks.
Its going to take tens of thousands of donations and many with at least three zeros each after the comma to accomplish the task. And that would be EVERY month like clock work to make the payroll. Once you take on a big load of expensive overhead, theres no going back. As it is, we get a couple thousand donations per quarter averaging about $30 bucks each and theres no guarantees we can cover this quarters expenses much less next quarter. Were on a pay as we go system and we have zero employees. We just ask for enough to pay the bills.
Throwing more money at the problem wont solve it. [This latest glitch] was a technical issue and we just had to keep troubleshooting until we found it. And no, were not going to invite a bunch of strangers in to get their hands on our secure systems. John has been programming since he was 14 and hes pushing 40 now. He built these systems and hes an expert in them.
And no, we are not going to throw out our software and rewrite it and no were not going to move on to some other database system. There are no guarantees that any other system can do a better job and not without hiring a staff to build and maintain it and thats for sure. And we dont have the financial wherewithal to do any of that anyway. Maybe if we had a couple million bucks at our disposal and a couple years to do it in we could build an iron-clad system. And maybe not.
All I can say is, if someone else can do it better and cheaper, then please step right on up and get er done!! Ill bow out and retire. Thankyouverymuch.
Hit it boys:

And no, we have no plans of taking FR commercial. I like it the way it is. Not sure I could handle getting rich.

You've grown an American resource that millions of Americans don't want to see go away. How can we ensure that it won't?
Growup. This is about FR’s survival. Your iPhone is petty and you have been told that by other posters as well.
LOL. Telling the truth about adolescent boys is not respectable, I agree.
Just put the ads in because it is going to get worse. When primary season comes around and even more donatiing users get zotted because their candidate of choice doesn’t pass the current purity test.
I am an American capitalist. I belive in capitalism for American and for FreeRepublic.
What about people who donate anonymously? They shouldn’t be allowed to post? Some of us donate far more than our fair share each quarter but prefer to remain publicly anonymous.
We don't care what sect anyone chooses to follow, as long as they support conservative policies.
I would not vote for Romney, but I would vote for a truly conservative Mormon in a heartbeat.
That's way, way, way to many employees. :-) Just kidding, Jim.
It's nice to hear the information for those of us that haven't been around in the days of Laz's cave drawings. :-)
but it is also connected that your search terms include either “Obozo”, “Marxist Democrats” or “bed wetting Democrats”
Thank you Boss.
Jim, I think I can speak for all of us when I say, “You da man, Jim!”
Seriously - FR is too valuable of a resource to just let slip away because it can’t pay the bills one quarter. Because of related job issues, hospital bills being paid entirely out of pocket, etc. I’ve not donated before, but I’m gonna hit the tip jar this afternoon.
C’mon people, do it for Jim, do it for FR, do it for America!
what was the point of this thread then? I'm confused. Was this a pledge drive?
Or "spork weasel".
That was very kind. The Widows Mite. It counts for more than hundreds of dollars because it's a "heart" gift.
And so would I. I voted for Romeny in the primary, but he revealed his faux pro-life positiona nd I voted for Sarah in the general (she ran with that rino McCain as you may recall).
I'm not in favor of a fee, unless it would bring about additional features or rewards.
I do like the idea of the "dollar a day" donation, but $1 per day is $365 a year, which might be nothing to some, but it's a lot of money to others. Maybe a 50 cents/day, a quarter a day, and a dime a day one-click donation settings would be good.
Absolutely. I agree with you, their idea just won't work.
Free Republic is an independent user driven conservative forum funded solely by your donations.
We are not affiliated with any political party, campaign, news agency, corporation, or anyone else.
There are no stockholders, advertisers, creditors, sugar daddies or string pullers.
FR is the number one, premiere, conservative site on the net
If you're a regular donor to our FReep-a-thons please consider donating Monthly.
It would go a long way toward helping to abolish the need for FReep-a-thons!
$10, $15, $25, a month would be truly appreciated, and $1 a day is truly A bang for your buck!
Even $5 Monthly makes you a hero at FR!
I, paulycy, posted this thread on my own initiative. I take Jim's word seriously. I want to see FreeRepublic.com outlive both Jim and me. I believe that, whatever Jim's original intentions, FR has grown to be an irreplaceable benefit and resource to the Constitutional Conservative movement and steps should eventually be taken to see that it not only functions well in the short term but survives technically and financially in the long term.
That is what this thread is about.
Ask the guy who posted it. I was just as surprised as anyone when I saw it this morning.
