Women 'want rich husbands, not careers': New survey claims drive for gender equality is a myth

Woman still want to marry up and naturally choose husbands who earn more than themselves, a report suggests.
The idea of most women wanting to be financially independent is a myth, according to Catherine Hakim of the London School of Economics.
Despite years of equality campaigning, more women are choosing to marry wealthy men than in the 1940s, the expert claims.
In her report, published by the Centre for Policy Studies think tank, she suggests men dominate the top positions because women simply do not want careers in business.
She criticised David Cameron for backing the idea of quotas to ensure that leading companies appointed more women to their boards.
Womens aspiration to marry up, if they can, to a man who is better-educated and higher-earning persists in most European countries, she said. Women thereby continue to use marriage as an alternative or supplement to their employment careers.
The research, which drew on existing data drawn from Britain and Spain, showed that 20 per cent of British women married husbands with a significantly better education than their own in 1949.
By the 1990s, the percentage of women deciding to marry up had climbed to 38 per cent with a similar pattern repeated in the rest of Europe, the US and Australia.

Let me guess - no kids, either.
Bunch of self-centered women looking for some way to “matter”.
In the factory that employs me, women are equal to, and the same as, men, and can do anything a man can do, and women are special, and have special needs, and need to be treated specially. Maddening, sometimes.
Girls are fakin, Goodness sakin
They want a man who brings home the bacon
Got no money and you got no car
Then you got no woman and there you are
Depends.
With the quality of education declining, and the overabundance of college educated twits, master carpenters, plumbers, and electricians might be the new rich!
I did expect my husband to financially take care of us once we had children. I wanted to be there for them full-time. But I didn’t have expectations as to how he’d do that or how much he’d earn. I was willing to live in a trailer if that was the best he could do.
The irony is that he’s done really well and we still live in a trailer while we save up to build our house. :-)
I urge my daughter to get her degree even though she wants a traditional marriage for the sake of security. (”OK. Let’s say you marry the most wonderful man in the world. Let’s say that you two get along and nothing tragic happens. He could still get into a car accident and you’d be left to raise your kids on your own. A degree is insurance. Buy it.”) She’s going for an education major now.
I love that line. I'm not married yet, though.
As Mr. Gun admits, I brought all the ASSETS to the marriage....on so many levels! Bottom line? I knew I couldn’t live without him.
The divorce and child support laws in this country are deplorable. Make some adjustments there, and at least the gold-digging “phenom” would change quickly.
I definitely understand! :-)
Many men put the business in the wife’s name just for such breaks/perks. She’s there in name only.
You mean women still want to be able to stay home and raise their own children? What a concept!
Problem is the culture tells them to be ashamed of this desire.
When men were inherently higher status than women, most women could marry “up.”
In today’s world this is no longer possible for the highest status women, especially since many high-status men still have no problem marrying well “below” them.
I know more than a few that are gonna be alone with their cats and chocolate by their mid to late 30s.
And the last line of the joke is:”That’s when I found out I was not
wired for 2/20!” :^}
In general unsatisfied women turn on themselves. Unsatisfied men turn on society.
Thank goodness I’m unlike ‘most’ women. I guess I’m a myth in that I’m financially independent without a husband. The idea that 38 per cent of women have ‘married up’ shows that intelligent, educated women like the same in their partners, not that independence is a myth. I’d like to find an intelligent, unpretentious man to complete my life.
Smart girl!
From the 10 reasons guns are better than women.
You can trade an old 44 for two 22's.
women want GOOD husbands is more accurate. those. who will take good care of them and the family.....you can be rich and not be any of that
though its no coincidence rich men rarely have ugly or fat women-wives
