Its gun laws are among the most lenient, allowing even a disturbed man like Mr. Loughner to buy a pistol and carry it concealed without a special permit. That was before the Tucson rampage. Now, having seen first hand the horror of political violence, Arizona should lead the nation in quieting the voices of intolerance, demanding an end to the temptations of bloodshed, and imposing sensible controls on its instruments.

Just what you what you would expect from the New York Times - keep guns out the hands of those intolerant conservatives. Because they have a crazy trigger finger. Never mind that Jared Lougher was an unstable leftist moonbat! The Gray Lady's agenda is aimed squarely at the personal freedom of every American, from our freedom of speech to our 2nd Amendment rights.

The drug war...over the next decade...will come into the living rooms of various residents of Arizona, New Mexico, California, and Texas. Controls...of any suggested type over any type of weapon...will become a joke. What the Times suggests...might work in NY City....but that’s just about the extent of reality in this case.

It doesn’t work even in NYC. And good point about the violence next door in MX. The Tucson massacre is just a pimple on the American landscape compared to the rivers of blood that are flowing in the country next door and the NYT takes no note of it.

Good thing we have a solidly Republican legislature here in Arizona. In fact, we got a significant amount of pickups in November. I shudder to think what would be on the horizon for us if this had happened even 4 years ago.

Of course the New York Slimes (NY Pravda) wants to end gun ownership.
I doubt that there were many private guns in the old Soviet Union.

When the NYSlimes demands their political fellow-traveler PLO drop their weapons, I’ll consider dropping mine.
