Patricia Maisch looks like a grandmother, but she is being hailed as a hero today for helping to stop alleged Tucson shooter Jared Loughner by wrestling away a fresh magazine of bullets as he tried to reload.
Maisch, 61, effectively disarmed the shooter as several men pounced on him and threw him to ground. As they struggled to hold him down, Maisch joined the scrum on the ground, clinging to the gunman's ankles.
Maisch and her fellow heroes -- identified as Bill Badger, Roger Sulzgeber and Joseph Zimudie -- stopped the carnage after 20 people were shot, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. Six people died.
"[I] knew right away it was a gun... I heard a continuation of shots," Maisch told a news conference today.

"I could see him coming. [He] shot the lady next to me," Maisch said.
As he was shooting, she said, she was expecting to be hit and she wondered what it would feel like.
There was "lots of blood and confusion," she said.
She considered trying to run away, she said, but thought that would make her more of a target, so she laid down on the ground. But then something unexpected happened.
"Then he was next to me on the ground," she said. "The gentleman knocked him down.
"I kneeled over him. He was pulling a magazine [to reload] and I grabbed the magazine and secured that. I think the men got the gun, and I was able to get the magazine," she said.

She’s gonna get the red carpet from the morning shows since she blames Republicans for the attack.
gonna be the medias BFF for the next week.
Reporters are clueless.
Yes, Good for her and she did the right thing but she also has accused talk radio and right wing extremist. She was on Fox eariler today and went to it with these type of comments at the end of the interview with Shep Smith.
These people were exercising their Second Amendment Right to both defend themselves and to defend others ~ in this case one of the few Democrat politicians to have herself acted on behalf of that amendment.
Once again, the regular people at the scene stop a crazed atheist trying to take out a congressman he thought was too stupid to live in the name of improving the gene-pool.
Where were your policemen there?
Same thing here, YOU MEAN A MAGAZINE?
If the guys knocked him down and took his pistol away, I’m not sure how much good it did to grab the magazine, although certainly every little bit helps.
I suspect the media are making a heroine out of her because she has been giving them the kind of leftist rants they like to promote.
These people all deserve the solid gold “Let’s Roll!” Medal of Freedom...
God Bless us all, that there are people just like them all over this Country who would do exactly the same thing.
He had to have known it was coming....and tacitly agrees.
When I was in the power industry, all the utility guys would go nuts when know-nothings referred to the “power grid.” There was no such thing. But after decades of know-nothings calling it “the grid,” the industry finally gave up and accepted it. You gotta know when to quit swimming against the tide.
I don’t care what her politics are..she showed bravery in the face of terror and helped stop a massacre.
What really impressed me is the guy who was safe in Walgreens who came out running to help.
she said he still had a gun and was trying to reload.
It’s not entirely clear, but maybe so. In any case, anyone who tried to disarm him certainly was doing the right thing.
