HANNIBAL, Ohio -- Just a week ago, a bell decorated the front of the Hannibal United Methodist Church. But, that is not the case anymore.
"We can't believe someone would steal a bell. You have to be pretty desperate to steal from a church. You have to be desperate to steal from anybody," Pastor of the church Lee Ann Dunlap said.
It was stolen sometime during the overnight hours last Monday morning. Dunlap said when a custodian came to the church a few hours later, he noticed the bell missing.

What’s the price of brass?
Ah. nickel and cast iron.
Thefts from church are no longer uncommon. We went almost 20 years with no incidents, then the hits started. We now have an alarm system installed.
Catholic Churches are stolen from all the time because they are open more than other denominations.
We had our “Poor Box” stolen on Christmas Day. People have broken into the candle boxes as well.
I’m sorry to see other denominations being hit as well. This article is correct. Stealing from a church is pretty low.

Around here they’re stealing copper gutter and roofing materials off of churches even in good neighborhoods.
The perps are waiting for the ‘no questions asked’ reward.

“Around here theyre stealing copper gutter and roofing materials off of churches even in good neighborhoods.”
not to mention that in my area there are thefts of metal flower urns at cemeteries...one metals thief was even killed last week when he cut some copper wire to steal...turns out the wire was hot and electrified his bolt cutters....that knocked him off his ladder 30 feet to the ground.
Made of copper ???

Exactly.
When our Poor Box was stolen, our Pastor said that if the person had just come to the office, he/she would have gotten so much more.
My church was broken into causing us to install an alarm. My husband’s churches (4) have been broken into and sound equipment stolen, etc. One church had their outside air conditioner compressor stolen. One was vandalized and spray painted. Satan is very busy these days.
