"From February to September 2010, Loughner had five contacts with PCC police for classroom and library disruptions at Northwest and West campuses. On September 29, 2010, College police discovered on YouTube a Loughner-filmed video made at Northwest Campus. In the video, he claims that the College is illegal according to the U.S. Constitution, and makes other claims.

"Working with legal counsel, College administration issued a letter of immediate suspension on September 29, 2010. That evening, two police officers delivered the letter of suspension to the student at his and his parents’ residence and spoke with the student and his parents.

Hints of schizophrenia, for sure.

“I couldn’t let my young 20’s kids go around acting nuts.”

I think you’d have a hard time stopping them. You’d have no legal right to, unless they broke a law.

Well neither channel was created before Oct. 2nd, what channel did the school find his stuff on on Sept. 29th? Is that channel still around? Or did he have to delete it? Or is the school telling a lie?

I would think it was deleted. I am sure we will find out in the coming days. Don't forget he had police involvement on five separate occasions from Feb. 2010 til September 2010 so stories yet to be told.

If they WANTED to continue acting nuts then you may be right. I would bust down walls to get them help, though.

Why did the school inform his parents? Why were they called at all? Did he live with his parents? Were they paying the bill for school? Or was he just so whacked out that the school felt that informing them was his only hope of getting help?

The guy is a pothead (spoken by several sources). I suspect the Army was willing to overlook some past usage but he wasn’t about to quit and they won’t overlook that fact. I’d make the judgement that he was probably a daily smoker for at least five years.

It's my understanding that Loughner's enlistment ended at MEPS. He'd have never made it that far if he had weed in his system as typically his recruiter would've already administered a urinalysis prior to sending him to MEPS. No recruiter wants to waste anyone's time by sending a "hot" recruit to MEPS. This is not to say he didn't smoke pot but when one goes to talk to a recruiter and expresses interest in starting the enlistment process, one of the first thing the recruiter does is make you pee in a cup.

My money says he failed the psychological screening as it is becoming clearer and clearer that Loughner is most likely schizophrenic. They'd have detected such issues at MEPS and quickly shown him the door.

His disconnected rants on Youtube, other students in his PCC algebra class said he would interrupt with nonsensical off topic rants, friends say he changed after an alcohol poisoning in '07, his favorite reading material is all over the map and now he goes on a rampage shooting everyone in sight.

I'm no expert but sounds more like schizophrenia to me than anything else I know of. If true then his mind was barely connected to life on this planet anymore.

He may be 22, but when one is a parent of a mentally ill child, one assumes responsibility until the child can care for himself. They not only have to fight the child, they have to fight the system. Since the boy was still taking drugs, he had yet to accept his condition and treatment. His parents lives have been hell for the last several years.

The pot causes schizophrenia in many of the mentally ill.

I’d put my money on schizophrenic. Everything else; politics, drugs, drinking, whatever, is meaningless.

Well, drugs and alcohol can certainly exacerbate mental illness but I do think it's pointless to try and label this guy as politically liberal or conservative. He's crazy, plain and simple.

That’s another thing, how did that Sate Senator know or think that he was a vet, if he didn’t even really make it that far. Who gave that tip or rumor to Senator about this guy?

Sounds like a set up to me.

I hear you, but typically, crazy people want to continue acting crazy. They don’t usually want or accept “help.”

Can you show us any scientific proof of that claim that marijuana causes schizophrenia or any other mental illness? Seems to me with as many people as we have in the US smoking that stuff we would have seen irrefutable evidence from the medical and scientific community by now. I have heard claims of that before but from what I read it was refuted by the EVIDENCE.

According to Katie Couric, it was all Sarah Palin’s fault because she earlier this year put out a map of Tea Party targets with cross hairs for the last election.

My original post- “His parents? I hope, for the sake of the sh!tstorm that’s about to descend upon them, that they did every thing they could to get this whacko some help.”

The parents will come under a microscope over the next few weeks. I hope they did all they could. If they didn’t, their lives, perhaps justifiably, are about to become a living hell.

It’s not bologna. Never heard of marijuana induced schizophrenia? If not, you should bone up on mental illness.

Who knows... Immediately after the shooting, Loughner's "clean-cut white male" description hit the web. Someone probably thought, "He must be a vet" and ran with it and others picked it up as fact.

There was so much misinformation hitting the interwebs in the hours following the shooting. I was watching Fox News when Shep gave the shooter's misspelled name and moments later Jared "Laughner" had several bogus Facebook profiles already established where he was everything from a gay pedophile to a diehard Sarah Palin supporter.

Misinformation at the speed of light these days.
