A viral video vaulted Ted Williams and his golden voice to fame, but the real hero of this story is the woman he left behind. Patricia Kirtley raised four daughters alone after Williams split 23 years ago and dove down the rabbit hole of drugs. Not only that, Kirtley took in the baby boy the radioman had with another woman and raised him as her own. Oh, and by the way, she's partially blind.

You obviously misread my post, I said GOOD MORNING AMERICA.........
Ah, yes I did, sorry. Was THAT this morning too?? How many interviews did he DO??
He’ll be back in the tank after a couple of paychecks...
I guess everyone believed he was one of God’s perfect saints? Come on, there had to be some reason he was living in a cardboard box and panhandling on a freeway off ramp. Of course he had a zillion skeletons in his closet. So what? He has a chance to turn it all around and I pray he makes it, but lets don’t pretend we’re shocked that his personal history is a mess.
Denzel?
Not always...and especially in this economy.
You tell me, you seem to know much more about this guy than me. Today was the first time I ever heard of him............
That was my point. You don’t get to where he was without leaving a lot of wreckage along the way. He can’t change that, he can only try to make amends to those people, and make sure he does no more damage in the future.

But taking the name of a famous Red Sox baseball player for his latest gig is over the top.
Interesting article detailing a lot more of the story.
Mrs Kirtley is the real hero here...
Mrs Kirtley is the real hero here...
No doubt along with her other family members.
From the article I linked:
As if that weren’t enough, Kirtley said two of her sisters and a cousin each took in a child Williams and his druggie girlfriend couldn’t, or wouldn’t, care for.
“I didn’t want to see those children in no foster home,” she said.

exactly...families truly homeless get help.
this ain’t Grapes of Wrath just yet
I help with street folks a fair amount...nearly all are dope or alcohol addicted or disturbed or both
and choose or simply don’t care enough not to live like this
In almost every case, homeless people were offered help by family and friends, but they either chose not to accept it out of pride, or burned every single bridge with them. That’s why I say it’s a choice, they would rather be homeless than swallow their pride, or make changes in their lives. Even in this economy almost everybody has family or friends to fall back on to some degree that would keep them off the streets.
