Authorities reported making an unusual discovery in the rural Starr County community of Fronton on Tuesday.
Border Patrol agents reported finding two AK-47 assault rifles hidden in a grassy area near the Rio Grande River.
The agents were investigating a report about a suspicious vehicle in the area when they discovered the two assault rifles.
Each rifle had one round of ammunition loaded in the chamber and 29 additional rounds in the magazine.
It's not clear who abandoned the weapons but AK-47s and ammunition were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further investigation.
These deadly weapons had the potential to cause serious harm to the residents of this community, said Chief Patrol Agent Rosendo Hinojosa. Through the agents diligent efforts and the watchful eye of a concerned citizen, this community and our nation as a whole are safer.

These weapons have the capability to fire cartridges assuming they are in good condition.
Assuming they were owned by criminals, then the criminals have the capability of using them to do great harm.

I'd love to have a genuine Rooskie AK47 but they're probably Chinese copies, or worse. And the receiver and barrel on the bottom one looks rusty.

Can they be traced to the country where they were manufactured. If they originally came from someplace like China or Cuba we should rub the Mexican governments nose in it.

Each rifle had one round of ammunition loaded in the chamberI should hope so. Placing 2 rounds of ammunition in each chamber is so socially awkward. Explaining the missing fingers, scars on the face, all of that...

So why can't the feds find the 12 million illegal persons?
Or is this "find" another arranged event?

Might just be two rifles that the ATF dropped as they were trying to smuggle weapons into Mexico.

I’m glad they found them, but I am saving my money to buy one of these things. Hope AKs don’t get too much bad press from this.

Notice no indention in receiver above magazine? This is a fairly cheap WASR10 folding stock,, still a good semi auto, NOT FULL AUTO, rifle.
You can buy one new for about $350.
The three point sling kinda catches my attention though.................
You don't hand out slings for temporary work.
